enough power for a sub?

I have a PG 200.4 (200w rms x4 @4ohms) to power a pair of Polk SR6500 components

AND

a 10 or 12" sub

Ill have the PG amp bridged to give a single sub 400 watts rms..is that enough power?

what do you guys think?

what can your subs handle? do you want it to hit real hard? or just engugh to know that you have something back there? if you want some good quality sound with out alot rattling then this should be good. if you want it loud then go bigger and dynomatt your car.

Now way. That amp does not have enough power to run that gear. It'll fry lickety-split!

Unless... you boosted the input signal with a line driver. Phoenix Gold is one of the only amps that will accept a high voltage input and be alright. Phoenix makes a PLD-1 line driver. Or a TI.PLD-1 (Titanium). I have one in my TL running to a Phoenix 6 channel. It loves it! Sounds awesome. If you're set on that amp spend a few duckets on a line driver. Don't try to run that gear on that amp alone. You'll be sorry!

Why would boasting the input signal increase the amps ability to run his gear?

Using a line driver can reduce the amplification of noise picked up on the signal interconnect but won’t change the power output of the amp.

There are three surefire ways to fry am amp.

Driving too low of speaker impedance.
Low supply voltage
Inadequate ventilation.

These are all installation problems. To say an amp will fry because it is too small or doesn’t receive enough audio drive is wrong.

To say am amp is too small to drive a particular woofer or speaker to an expected SPL is correct.

I’m not familiar with his amp but doubt the 400w RMS spec, if the amp is too small for his big sub, upping the input level won’t help.
