Has anyone successfully bypassed the ELD system on their Acura? Apparently the ECU varies the output of the alternator based on driving conditions. My voltage varies between 12.5V and 13.9V and I want to bypass the circuit so it is always at 13.9V. Reason being is that it significantly reduces the power to my audio system, specifically my subwoofer. When in low charge mode, I lose about 6dB or so of output, which is huge.

 

Why does that sound like an extremely bad idea...? Can't you just install a cap or something...

 

A capacitor is not going to remedy the problem. The voltage is not fluctuating, it is intentionally being varied based on engine conditions. Sometimes it is 12.5V and other times it is 13.9V for minutes at a time.

 

Anyone have any ideas on how to bypass this, I'm also in need the bypass myself due to running 2 batteries and 3 amps

 

I drove around with a voltmeter connected to a plug in my 12V power socket to see what made it vary, and found that it would be 13.9V for about 10 minutes after starting the car (presumably to replace the charge that was lost by starting), then drop to 12.5. Turning HVAC, defroster, and audio on and off didn't seem to make any difference, but it would go right back up to 13.9V whenever I turned my headlights on, and drop back to 12.5V once I turned them off. So I'm planning to just turn my headlights on whenever I want to crank the volume.

 

To each his own, but if it were me, I wouldn't want to keep looking down at my power socket and flipping the headlights on and off, which is not good for HID lamps. The ELD bypass takes less than an hour to complete.

 

Just an update: I bypassed the ELD functionality and now have a constant 13.9V. However, the volume still gets considerably louder when I cut off the ignition. I have a high powered alternator (170A) and have done the big 3 upgrade and no difference. Doesn't make sense.
