Eclipse Head Units-Help!
Help, does anybody know how good and reliable are the Eclipse headunits? I heard that the 5441 skips alot, did they fix the skip problems in their 5442? Ready to buy in several days.

I had CD5441 for 1 month and then upgraded to CD5442. I had some problem with CD5441 reading older CDs (scratched, dirty, etc) and it will STOP and threw out error code. It never skips though.
I upgraded to CD5442 because of that problem.
I think CD5441 is 2001 model and CD5442 is 2002 model. Just make sure you buy it from an authorized dealer. That way you get manufacturers warranty and service.

Where did you get the unit installed and how much was it for the radio and install price? Is Al and Ed's the only place that stock these?

I bought them from Al & Eds. Install is $45. I hate to pay it, but I got a buy 1 get 1 free deal at that time, and had to pay for installation fee. The regular price for the radio is $449.
I know a shop in Garden Grove called Advanced Car Creation carries Eclipse as well for a little cheaper. Ask for Jose, he's the owner of the shop. I don't have the phone number but you can search on Yahoo yellow page.

Hey 260HP
Have you heard about the Eclipse 6 disc in-dash cd changer that's a single din? Or should I get the 8 disc trunk mounted cd changer instead? How reliable is the 6 disc changer? I am undecided either way. I will be installing the 5442 hu.

I heard that the 6-disc in-dash changer is not as reliable as the trunk one. Actually Eclipse was known to have skipping problem in the past. I don't know about it in the present day.
I'd get the trunk mounted one. And if you have any plan to install the E-Com system, get the compatible changer. I think Eclipse has 2 trunk changer models and one of them is not E-Com compatible.
I have the E-com system installed along with the GPS module. It's quite fun...
Go to eclipse-web.com, you can search for dealers based on your zip code.
I saw you're from Orange County. I work in Santa Ana, close to Home Depot on Edinger, if you're familiar with that area.

Hey, gotta ask you some questions on the e-com, here's my email:JasonYeung@peoplepc.com. I work in Irvine but I know exactly where you at, you're near the Tustin Marketplace, right? I need to ask you some questions on the eclipse dsp too, so drop me a line. How's the gps? Is it the same as the voice navigation?
