Dynamat install -- Pix

I installed dynamat on my front doors thus far. I only have time to do 1 door a day after work I was thinking of posting a "how-to" write up, since I took a bunch of pictures during the install. I dunno if there's already a write up on it though. The best tool I used was a wooden roller from Home Depot that cost me $6 (can be found in the paint department). All in all, an easy thing to do, but time consuming. So here's the results:

Nice work by the way - I like that you sealed the speaker baffle to the door with silicone - it's little things like that that make everything perform that much better

Did you try out the speakers without the dynomat? Does the dynomat make a big difference? I'm debating whether I should get some when I get my speakers installed. Thanks.

Thanks, attention to detail does pay off.

Yes, but I can't really judge for a few reasons:

1. I've only been using these speakers for a few days now.
2. The tweeters aren't mounted in the correct location
3. I haven't driven it yet with the dynamat

I can give an update once everything has been installed. BTW, my doors weigh a ton now! They shut nice and solid.

God, I hope you NEVER have to get your window replaced... because the mechanic will curse your name.

You could have gotten 90% the results with 66% of the work and material.

Hey Eld, can you expand? I'm thinking about adding some Dynamat (or cheaper equivelant)

I think he's just saying that I could have gotten away with using less of the Dynamat, not an alternate product...I could be wrong though, but that's how I interpreted it.

So I got an extra 10% efficiency doing it this way

Yes, Eld, please expand. I'll be putting in VMax (as you know) and my plan was to cover the door as ASuddenSilence did.

honestly I dont think putting that much on the doors is worth it at all...though it does look very nice and you (ASuddenSilence) did a very good job for sure. But my doors only have a small bit behind the speaker and for it to mount too (the door speaker kit), and they sound great (that is much cheeper and lighter for sure). Just make sure the speakers have a very solid mounting location and you will be just fine. Nearly all the road noise comes through the windows and floors anyway.

Though quite a bit of dynamat (or other material) is very worthwhile for the trunk if you have a good amount of bass.

Aside from the wooden roller, I have found that a heat gun is even more important (use a good pair of gloves if you use the heat gun). W/ the heat gun, the adhesive gets stickier and the dynamat itself is more pliable and easier to mold onto the door.

Wow! Thats a lot of dynamat. You could put a JBL 8 in that door and it would sound killer with that much dyna!

Thats enough dynamat for all four doors in that one door. How does the door panel fit?

Did you dynamat behind the mid and the inside of the door?

The door panels fit with no problems

Yes, once I realized I still had enough dynamat left over, I went back and did the inside of each door.
