Droppin in a Laptop

I just got a laptop with dvd. i am going to buy one of those laptop mounting swivel things for the car and i will need to

1.) figure out a way to connect the computer audio into the stock radio and

2.) find a vga 2 rca/svideo (or RGB whichever one is most appropriate) converter to send the signal to 2 tv's in the headrests.

I've yet to see anyone with a laptop in the ride. I know for once i will need a power inverter 400watts good enough eh?

it would be cool to have it in your car but a little pointless, alot of people have laptops in their cars but that is because they change audio settings throught the laptop. some even monitor the status of the engine through it , if you want to use it to play dvd then i would buy a PS2 and put it in there, it does the same thing and you can play ps2 games

Sup, Will you be using a cell phone to connect or do you have an aircard ( crazy expensive airtime). I'm not really sure how this will turn out for you but I'm not a big fan of having cables dangling around my ride.

what you could do is get a wireless card for the computer and then at home or somewhere hook up w cable/ dsl or some type of internet source and then run a wireless network but its going to be pretty expensive.

So when people steal your headlights they can also go in the cabin for the laptop?

Although, it would be cool to cruise through the downtown area and write down all the 802.11b wireless networks that are wide open for my abuse

Try this for the audio, it's the best solution period.

i already have a wireless card and wireless network in my house. my main concern is somehow getting the laptop audio into the stock radio.. i do not have a cd changer. as for the tv signal to the 2 Tvs that will be in the back.. i have to get a vga to RCA converter which costs around 80 bucks. so i just need to get this sound workin.

What you could do is use one of those Cassette adapters and plug it in from the output of laptop to the cassette deck of the car. I do it all the time on my TL when my friends want to watch a movie on the car or listen to MP3's. It works and sounds great. Output directly from the speaker system.

well... i thought about that, but i want a direct connection to the radio. i am kind of a perfectionist and i dont want loose wires or any unnecessary stuff laying around. its bad enough i will have a huge laptop mount coming up from the floor. I have searched the threads and found no usefull info on connecting an outside sourse to the stock non cd changer radio.

Grab a cassette feed ($ 29.00 Best Buy) with power from lighter ... walla,, $39+$29= music all day... tiger direct currently don't list either model. They do get them in and post when available, Watch for them, or call 800-800-8300. The'll let you know when next shipment is due... they sell out fast... they are refirbished units and I have bought at least 10 for gifts... RIO 90 model... The $29 dollar one. All have worked flawlessly so far...

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...?sku=F250-1002 for a wireless link to your radio for
$19.99 in case you dislike excess wiring in the cockpit of your TL

AOL/AIM

If you want AOL/AIM just get a cell phone with Sprint and pay for PCS Vision... it's only $10 a month for unlimited data (no additional charge and it doesn't use your minutes). I have a Sprint Treo 300 and I'm pretty happy with it. Check it out at

http://www.handspring.com/products/treo300/index.jhtml

It's a lot cheaper than having a laptop in your car, and it will work anywhere.

Or even with some mobile phone just get a data cable kit and you can use your phone as an external modem. No need to pay extra for the mobile online services.

Laptop's a great idea.

I'd mount the laptop in the trunk. A custom driver to interface the touch screen to the laptop would be easy to make. It'd play CDs, DVDs, and you could store a butt load of MP3s. Use remote control through a wireless card to download and upload. And it would probably be less expensive than dedicated software. Upgrade to a microcomputer. The price would be cheaper, and you could add a TV tuner card. Maybe an All-in-wonder card. Sounds cool. If you can't Wright your own touch screen driver, use a wireless mouse.

what i'd do is get a short tower or slim tower and mount that somewhere then get a smart screen and use that to interface and also hook up your gauges and stuff to the computer just to get extra featurs and stuff haha.. you can find smart screens at www.tabletpc.com

It is safe to plug in a 400watts inverter to run the laptop?

www.mp3car.com OR www.mp3car.com/vbulletin for the forum.. you can find any information you need there to put an actual computer in your car or how to hook up your laptop in your car..

I am just about to finish up hooking up a computer in my car with a 7 inch touchscreen molded where the head unit was.. do a search for "elserpien" (spelling?) and look at his setup. Def. check out mp3car though for all computer solutions
