I know its an old topic and I have done my fair share of board trolling, but I have to see if anyone has any thoughts....

I am a MECP installer of 4 yrs and recently just bought a 02 TL w/Navi. I obviously want to make the conversion but am having a horrible time trying to locate the AVC-RBG1 or ANYTHING that I can use instead. I saw a thread on using a seperate monitor that has composite inputs by utilizing the RBGC wires inside. I really like this idea and am curious to know if it works.

If so, could you use a portable DVD player with a monitor, trash the screen or whatever and just run the RBG wires up to the factory monitor? I obviously am not scared to dive into the task, just curious if anyone has any thoughts or suggestions before I give it a whirl? Would probably be using a unit like this:
