Question double din time!

k so the time has come to change out the deck!.. i want sirius radio SO damn bad i am willing to shell out the coin for the double din..

I have ordered the metra double din kit and the wiring harness they make..

I WANT to get the clarion nx602 along with the rear view back up camera and then hook it up to sirius.

I need to know what else i need to make everything work.
will the speakers be worse because of the internal amp on the clarion unit? will it be better?

I know nothing when it comes to audio in our cars so please enlighten me fellas.

It says the nx602 is OEM steering wheel remote ready so how do i get the buttons to function with the deck for volume and skip track??? will the wiring harness i ordered make that all work??

any further input i missed is also greatly appreciated. thanks in advance everyone!

If you want to be able to watch video while youre driving then do yourself a favor and go to radioshack or wherever and grab a basic 5pin 30 amp relay .. about 1/4 the cost of an actual 'official, if u will, parking brake bypass module. You should be able to find instructions for wiring it through google or youtube..its easy and takes 10min

As for the steering wheel controls i have a pioneer unit which is obviously different from yours but what i had to was buy a steering wheel adaptor (pac swi-ps). You program it through the module where you can select what button does what control. Again peice of cake to wire.

Lastly...the sound quality. Lets just say i was AMAZED. Youd honestly think i put a component setup in the car. Thats how shitty the factory bose head unit is. My friend has an amplified component setup on his 08 accord coupe with the stock head unit, and its incomparable how much louder and clearer mine is. Stock deck is a joke if youre into music like myself.

The sirius should be a standard install, but make sure you dont need to buy an adapter to make it work, because i plan to do the same thing and even though my din's "xm/sirius ready" i still need a pretty expensive adapter..

sweet man thanks.. i'm gonna go to clarion tomorrow and see what they now as well. apparently you can go directly to clarion to buy their products and thus cut out the usually distributor and save some cash too!! clarion's office happens to be 2 miles from my house as well which is just lovely.

I needed to get a line output converter to bump up the gain on the stock speakers since the stock amp didnt like the aftermarket radio outputs (this was on three different radio, across two different manufacturers).

http://www.crutchfield.com/p_127SOEM...4.html?tp=3486

This is the interface you need if you want to keep the steering wheel controls:

http://www.crutchfield.com/p_127SWIJ...-SWI-JACK.html

They tend to have a slight delay though.

If youre getting new speakers and throwing the Blose stuff in the trash, then dont worry about the line output converter.

Forgot to mention, solder all your connections and use heat shrink for the best quality. Dont twist the wires together and tape them.

Also looking to do a double DIN, and possibly replace the speakers as well. How simple is this to do as a DIY? I've never done wiring myself. If I'm not planning on adding a subwoofer (cost), is it worth it to upgrade the speakers?

Something to also to keep in mind. If you drop in this deck and you dont replace the speakers, the wattage of the sound from the deck will drop by half compared to the stock radio. Why you're probably asking?

The stock BOSE system is a 2-ohm system. If you run the Clarion deck to those stock Bose 2-ohm speakers I'll sound like 1/2 the power it actually has because the Clarion decks amp is 4-ohm. So what can you do? Buy clarion speakers or any other 4-ohm speakers you choose and you'll be set.

Why swap the stock speakers if you are content with them?

I put a pioneer double din in mine , lost the hand controls .
the sound is much more touchy, volume at 10 is as loud as you want it with the windows up.

From my experience, I had no issues with the gain on the stock speakers. It sounded a LOT better than the stock head unit with 0 tweaking.

Maybe because the headunits Ive ran used 4v preamp outputs (compared to the typical 2.5v outputs) which is why my sub would overpower the speakers? I try not to use the built in EQ, I like to tune everything from the amp, then move to the EQ if I can't get it quite right. The line output converter lets me tune the Bose speakers.

this kinda crap makes me not even wanna buy their product.

why is this so difficult?

i think i'm gonna just see an audio shop and see what they say.. i wanna get this al done professionally too since i hate F ups especially if it meant driving without audio.

Why are you having someone else install it?

All the harnesses you get come with pin outs. Its just a game of connect the wires. If you have any questions, we can help.

I used the Metra harness and everything I had matched up. Ive done it a few times too

There is a slight bit of work getting the steering wheel controls and the line output converter hooked up, since they are run in-line with everything else, but if you take your time its not difficult at all.

It sucks we dont live closer, I actually enjoy wiring and Id do the harness for you.

No matter what radio you use you will need the interface adapter (pac swi)

The line out converter is for the amp.

I have a pioneer p4300dvd. Just about every headunit i've dealt with since 2000+ has rca outputs in the back that goes directly to the amp. You would only need a line out converter if you were doing something like running a sub with the stock bose deck. In this case you splice a line output converter into the rear speakers to gain a signal, and then the rca's come out of the that to the amp. I did it like this for 3 years but it beware, it doesn't sound anything NEAR an aftermarket deck of just about any brand/price.

Back on topic, like i originally said, I DID need an adapter for the steering wheel controls to work. model PAC SWI-PS.

I would HIGHLY recommend the pioneer p4200/4300dvd. in a heartbeat. Not sure how much youre looking to spend but you can do everything you want on it (sirius, backup cam, etc etc, sd card slot for every song you ever owned, video, usb, navi for an extra $250 or something although i hear its not that good, i'd rather just use google maps on my droid.. etc) The only difference between the two is the 4300 is a yr newer and has integrated pandora that you can control through your iphone (only for iphones though) Waste IMO, if theres a big price diff, go with the 4200dvd.

Oh and for $1000, I'd never buy that deck you posted. It is a more nav oriented and lacks a lot of the features that the decks i mentioned have

Agreed! I have the 4200 and absolutely love it! The sd card is freaking amazing!

I just put a pioneer avh-p4400bh in mine.. wired up the rear view camera too. I didn't need any line out converters or anything. Speakers are real loud even at low volume on the unit. I used the Metra ASWC interface for the steering wheel controls.
Amazon Amazon

Love the streaming google music.. Some pics...

Generally, yes, but as I said the only reason I got the LOC was to be able to adjust the gain on the stock amp. The LOC has those adjustment screws on it. It does have RCAs as well, which I didnt use.

Ive used two Pioneers and now a Kenwood, and every single one of them made the speakers sound way too low.

The first Pioneer I had (AVIC-F90BT, absolute piece of shit) required me to turn the volume up 3/4ths of the way up for what would typically amount to ~5 on the stock radio. With the LOC, Im not able to have proper volume controls from the headunit.

If youre running aftermarket speakers and amps with an aftermarket radio, dont bother with the LOC since its pointless.

Ive got a Kenwood DNX5120 with the stock Bose speakers. Installed without the need of a LOC. There is a preout gain control within the deck so the Bose amp doesnt sound overpowering.

Keep in mind that handsfree(bluetooth) will require anouther reciever in addition to the Sirius tuner you already found. I think my Kenwood one was around $100 bucks.

As for the antennas, I ran my GPS one in the center of dashboard. The deck is currently out of my car and I was thinking of moving it somewhere else. Where does anyone else mount theyre antennas???

You have to make sure the unit youre looking has BT built in, not just BT compatible.

I installed a Pioneer AVIC without any prior how-to knowledge before the installation. All you need is the dask kit and get the metra harness off ebay, all the colours line-up. Don't listen to future shop or any of those audio shops that tell you that you'll need new speakers or a wiring harness that uses the factory amp. The metra harness has a blue wire that you hook up that can bypass the factory amp and use the one built into your head unit.
