The door speakers are 6 inches, but you can install a 6.5 by using a spacer. If you are not going to buy an amp, make sure your speakers are rated at 4 ohms and are very efficient as the factory amp is only putting out 12 watts to the door speakers.
If you do a search in this forum, you will find several threads that talk about installing aftermarket speakers.

The Bose door speakers are 6-inch and I replaced them with 6.5-inch Polk speakers. Here is a link to my old post back in December:

hey TLS,
today I was at CC and I started talking to the car audio sales guy about how much I hated the blows, I mean Bose, stock spkrs in my TLS and so anyway, I start listening to some speakers and really liked the Polk EX602a spkrs, which are being discont'd. I had no intention to buy anything, but these were on sale for 59 $/pr, so I bought four of these and w/instal it came to $210 out the door . . now mind you, I know these are not audiophile grade or top of the line, and I know there are better speakers out there, and this is not a LOUD system like others here have, but WOW!, the sound in my car was soooo much better! and this is with the factory amp, there's no need for me to replace that amp as the spkrs sound great, even the Blows woofer is acceptable with these POLKS (but I might change out the woofer later on) I guess my point is that you need not spend a great deal of $$$ to make the sound system on the TLS a 'keeper'
