Do I need to get new speakers if getting new head unit?

I'm so sick and tired of this piece of sh*t HU that I got in my '99 TL.. I'm just going to get a new one..

Does anyone have any suggestions? I dont care if it has tape player or not.. Radio and CD is all I want..

If you guys have any links and pics, please let me know..

Maybe some that play MP3's too?

The question I had on the speakers.. Don't I have to replace those crappy bose speakers if i'm getting a new HU?

Thanks!

No, you do not have to replace the speakers to replace the head unit. It will sound better if you do but, the factory speakers will do for now.

There are a lot of head units that should do the job for you. I have an Alpine 7893 myself and I know the 7895 does play MP3's. Also, if you wanted to have a tape player as well, there are many installers who could do a double din unit for you. The options are limitless.

I just heard somewhere that those speakers won't be able to play without that HeadUnit because they don't have their own amp inside?

Hopefully i'm wrong..

I was looking at some Clarions, Alpines and Kenwoods.. all expensive as hell.. I still have to check on EBay see what I can find..

But if anyone could give me some links.. i'd appriciate it.

I dont have to have it play MP3.. but would be nice if price isn't too high.. I wanna send under $250 for the HU, and it has to fit my dash.. if there's a mount kit, that would be OK too.

Any suggestions?

Whoever told you that the speakers will not play is wrong. Wait, I have a 2000 TL. I would assume it is the same as the 99. Up until yesterday, I was using the stock speakers hooked up to my Alpine 7893. I just unplugged the stock plug and used a Metra harness and all was good.

There is no dash kit that is cheap. Several custom places make one but, they are expensive. I own a machine shop so, I made my own.

I would highly recommend looking at the 7893. It does not do MP3 but, it just looks good to me in the dash and it is a top notch unit.

All of these are just my suggestions and I am not an expert or do I claim to be. Just an audio nut. Hope this helps.

Hey X2 did you loose the stock sub when you set up the new harness or ddi you have to modify it. Was the harness you used for a accord?

i am sure he used the 98 and up honda wiring harness... (same as the accord)... with this wiring harness the stock sub does not work... but you can modify it to work...

shaw is right. I did use the 98 and up harness and I did loose the stock sub. I again stress that I new ahead of time that it was temporary. Just this weekend I have been working on my setup and now have Alpine Type R components and a 10" Kicker L7. The really cool thing about the Alpine 7893 head unit is that you can actually alternate between the preamp outputs and the speaker level. At the push of a button, I can go from the stock speakers to the components and sub. Worked out pretty good.
