disapointed in the w7

recently installed two 10 w7's along with two earthquake phd2 amps. Does not hit like they cost. The dealer said that after about 25 hours of work they would open up and gain about 40% more output. Wondering if anyone else had them and got that? hrmm........

Well i have 1 13W7 and it its harder than any other subs I have ever heard and believe that the sound is comparable to 3 12's. I do also believe in the theory of letting the subwoofer "stretch" before its full performance can be measured. I am slightly concerned by the choice of the amplifier and its true wattage performance without a second battery or other component neceesary to run that amount of power. The correct box is almost the most influential factor in a subwoofer so assuming that there are no design flaws I am shocked to hear you could be dissapointed in those subs, especially when you have two of them. Perhaps a second look into all aspects of the system should be evaluated before concluding.

My 1 10w7 is nuts! I wonder about the amps too! Sell the Eathquakes and get 2 500/1s

My guess is you are underpowering the subs.... 2 w7's need a shitload of power and im doubting those amps deliver.

The whole idea of "stretching" the sub, etc is really breaking in the cone. A REAL shop would have already done this on the test bench with data provided by the manufacturer.

Evilstorm, two W7s should pound the snot out of your nose - literally. If you are not happy, chances are something is wrong. What kind of source do you have - stock or aftermarket?

Those amps should be putting out at least 1000w rms. However, from what I know - they are really designed more for SPL blips than for everyday use. Most say they get REALLY hot and end up burning themselves up.

im not sure how the amps are set up but, the subs should be way overpowered. i have no idea how they set the amps, havent taken a look, too coold. they might have set them up for total sq...i mean it sounds great! i just thought for that kind of money i should be able to get more bass. also, if it wasnt for this shitty rattle like the back speaker mounts are rattling to hell, im sure it would be so much better, also, i need to brown bread it.

From what I have learned here in the past few weeks:

Where are your RCA's wiried into?
Most say that our radios dont put out enough power through the RCA's. I may have found somethign to help this, if THIS IS WHAT IS WRONG?

Anyone agree?Disagree??

With the stock radio into a LOC (or similar setup) it won't be enough juice to drive the amps. Unless you know that they are getting enough signal, you prob need a line driver (something to basically boost the signal). I would hook up an outside source playing the radio (so you can listen to the same thing in the car) to the amps, and turn it up. If it hits harder, that's your prob. BE CAREFUL THOUGH! I DO NOT know how things are setup know and it may be set not to toast anything. If you feed it a nice signal it might really bump and toast something.

Those fuses are more than likely for power, not for the protection of the woofers.

Earthquake is not the best quality
The JL 500/1 is the PERFECT match for the 10W7....get 2 of them and it will be like someone is hitting you with a sledge hammer!

u have two 10w7 slot ported and it doesnt pound? Something is def wrong man. Take it back to the shop. I have 2 10w7s in a sealed box and although the SQ is excellent, mine doesnt mound THAT much. Although Nickys 10w7 in a ported box had so much bass i think he cracked his spoiler.

you need to come and listen to mine and tell me, i just dont know what they put for the gains on mine, they might have set them low so that the bass doesnt envelope the mids and highs

it is 1" baffle and i know it is set up correctly, rear firing. you need to come check it out, like it said tho, i have no idea what the gains are on the amps, they could have set them really low in order to make it sound right

Nicky: I'm interested in gettin a single 10 W7 w/ powered by a 500/1. Currently I have a single 10 W6 (not v2) powered by 300watts. Will the difference between the two be amazingly life changing?

today i was listening to a BASS CD and had the bass gain setting knob on the lowest for 1000/1 JL amp and the bass at 0 out of 5 on the Alpine Head Unit and I was not able to turn the volume up past 21 out of 35 and I thought the fuckin' roof was going to blow off!

SO in my opinion through years of audio experience the W7 kicks 99% of the subs ass' out there.
