You cant really compare DD to RE. DD is all out SPL, and is built to make one note wonders. I suppose you could with the RE MT, the SPL sub line. The SE is a great sub, and would be great in your car. Keep in mind that the XXX sub has more sound quality, although more expensive. The RE website has diagrams of different size boxes, ports, and box volumes for the appropriate setup. If I were you I would call them, and ask them what size to run.

If you spend that much money on an impeccable sub, please buy an amp that will match it. A RF amp doesn't cut it. Im sorry if I offend anyone by me saying this, but RF blows monkey balls. There are LOTS of amps you can get for under $1K and be absolutely astounding compared to a cookie cutter amp.

If you are into a very loud sub, but very sq ... RE is an excellent choice. I would also like to point out Adire Audio Brahma. The HUGE difference in my opinion comparing SPL subs to SQL, is how they sound at lower volumes

Just my . Hope I give you some kind of insight.

Just talked to my old boss and got the word on how the SX sounds. 15" SX on 1400watt Cadence A7-HC (same amp that I'm running on my two 10" SE's). Intall in a '04 Nissan Xterra. He said it loud enough that you can't stand to be in the vehicle. He may be up tonight so I can talk to him more about it. Wish I could here it but I don't want to risk damaging the only good ear I can hear out of, yet

Im more into the higher end gear. That amp no doubt has some power, but to me the quality of it really isnt up to par with amps that I like. Some amps for example that I would pair that sub with would be ...

Diamond Auido D7402 (1600w rms x 1 @ 4ohm)
Zapco C2K9.0XD (2k or 2.2Kw rms @ 4 ohm)
US Amps 2000X (2000w rms x 1 @ 4 ohm ... but benches at 2400+)

Also check out JBL/Crown, Arc Audio, Mcintosh, etc. Some of these amps are no longer in production, but you can find them around at decent prices. The old US Amps for example can be found on ebay. The new US Amps line went to hell, and is now made in Taiwan or some crap. Let me know if you have any questions.

Im using 2 Diamond Audio D7402 amps with 2 Adire Audio Brahma 12s now. All I can say is WOAH! Very loud and very SQ.

I talk to a guy who works there. he owns the white tacoma truck. hes the one who quoted me 2 bills for the box. its a regular ported box, tunely built for the DD. Nothing too fancy...none of that show stunning trunk setup. just a box so my tl can hit

by the way, what series DD is in that SL? the 9500 series??

I know he has 2 dd's but i dont know which series. I have always wondered how loud his truck was.. chest pounding loud?

if you can afford the DD, go w/ the DD

i don't care if everyone says they are purely for SPL, but how many of them actually owned them.
I had a 9515 old d-series in the back of my old landcruiser, in a 6 cu. ft. box tuned to 35hz. I have to say, even with only 1000W (memphis st-1000d), it has to be the best sub i owned to date. I got it used for around 300 shipped, which is a very good price

Now i'm running a 1st gen boob style RE 12" HC quad 1ohm. It maybe the box (only 2.5cu.ft., tuned to 30hz) or the fact it is only 12", but even with the same memphis amp, it doesn't get as loud, or hit as cleanly as my old DD.

i miss my old 9515 and wish i could get it back (or fit it in my trunk). I sold it to some guy who strapped a PH-D3 (3000W RMS, 5000W max, i think) on in. made him cough up blood, but blew the sub in a matter of weeks. haha

eh? DD isn't for all out SPL, at least not the 3500 and the 9500....The RE MT on the other hand, is a one note wonder sub with lots of motor force for SPL.

The current RF Power-series are beast! A buddy of mine has one and that amp absolutely keeps up with the rest of his system. His system is easily one of the best I heard!

If I had extra money laying around, I would pick one up!

I want to keep trunk space so would a ported box with 1 12" DD 9500 take up my whole trunk and how much does that sub run?

as far as trunk space goes, I think ported box is usually bigger than sealed but DD recommends ported for all their subs. The price range for a 9515 is around 450-500 bucks. its a "decent" price compared to what a 13w7 cost when it was new. Anyway, the 9500 series are massive. its rated at 1200RMS but it can handle so much more than that..like 1500RMS! Just b/c it can handle that much doesn't mean you have to give it that much though. I wouldn't recommend it if its a daily driver. You can if you enter a car-audio competition or if you want to throw up in the car.. I heard that someone had a 9500 and was pushed by 400 watt and it was still "powerfully loud."

Yeah, DD 9500 is an impressive sub dude.
