dash monitor unit ... need your help!!!
I want to add a pop up monitor, like a alpine cva-1005, to my dash. What will I have to do to add this unit to my car. Do I need new speakers and stuff like that. I am new to this audio/video stuff. Any help would be appreciated.
Nope, you don't need anything else, but you will need to make a face plate to surround it. Other than that, nothing really but the wire harness. It will improve your sound quality noticeably, but you will probably decide to upgrade the speakers anyway.
Let me know if I can be of more assistance.

Also, does a dvd player need to be added to the system or does it already come with the cva 1005 system?
the 1005 (or its replacement, the 1006) right out of the box is just a radio with a lot of capabilities...nothing else! you need to add a changer or cd player add-on if you want cd playback, you need to add video sources to utilize the monitor, etc. now if you bought the iva-c800, it comes with a built in cd player in addition to radio features. so yes you need to add a dvd player if you want this feature. you can choose the din unit (dva5205 which also plays store bought cds and vcds) or you can go with the 6-disc dvd/cd/vcd changer.
so if u put in the monitor...do u put it in where the envelop case is? or where the original radio controls are?...cause in the gallery theres one with the screen fited into the small slot where the envelop case is...
if i put in the screen like the one in gallery...i dont get how the menues work. Cause usualy the screen has a graphic menu..and the car in the gallery would have the audio controls down as buttons and the screen......... just confused......little more explanation would be appreciated...

the alpine is a single DIN unit so it's measurments is like 7" wide by 2" high by 7ish" deep...the key factor being the width and height. a double din is still 7" wide, but now 4" high. the envlope tray is not more than an inch which can be considered half-din. so if you were to mount this type of unit into that location, it would probably require removing the faceplate and a lot of custom mounting to get it in behind the envelop piece. that car is snooks so you can PM here for more info. otherwise just remove the stock radio, mount the radio and fab a trim ring to fill the enormous gap left over.
