Streeteffectz bailed out on us in making dash kits for the TL. Your only options now are to either buy the Metra kit (available at Circuit City) or make one yourself.

That metra kit is ugly and cheap. Just looking at it makes me want to :yack:

Here is the one I had made a couple years ago. My installer had to contract out a plastics guy to make a mold and everything...so it won't be cheap(I had to absorb some of the R&D costs just to have it made)...but, you get what you pay for.

Keep in mind that the one pictured is the original prototype installed in my car. Since then, the quality has actually improved with better fitment. And, the newer ones have better colour match...but it is still a bit off.

The guy still has the mold...so he can create single and double din applications. The space for the deck on the newer ones are actually placed a bit lower to facilitate in-dash lcd screens...whereas mine was placed in the center.

so is there a double dinn dash kit available also?
what i really want is a double dinn which also takes the place of the cd holder above the stock HU.

Sorry, I don't think one was ever made to replace the notepad slot(if that's what you're talking about).

For more information the installer's contact info is in this thread...

Original thread

I originally paid $170 USD(including R&D etc). It may have went done in price...or maybe not. I don't know for sure. You should contact the installer for prices and options.

I like my metra kit, fits perfect, looks fine and cost $15. I dont think that an extra $100 is worth it for a different shade

And if the metra kit for the CL/TL is anything like this...

I know where the extra money I paid for went...quality and durability...no cheese please.

I've been installing car audio for over 10 years and I have never had a problem with a metra kit EVER. Ive had them in all my cars. I use them in all my side jobs. To each his own, but f$ck paying $170 for plastic. Ill save that for an intake or some mids or something.....

Yeah, it's hard to justify the price difference ($15 vs. $175) when the higher priced option doesn't even match the colors exactly (at least from what I've seen). The only reason I could see someone paying that kind of money is when they absolutely need a double din installation, IMHO.

I wish taht was available when I did my system. Yes it looks ugly but I would just get the metra kit and cover it with wood.

Definitely. I got my dash kit from the same guy as gimmesomesugar. At the time there was no other option so I shelled out the $220 since I also intended to house an EQ as well. The fit of the kit is flawless. The coloration has a bit to be desired. You can view the installation of the kit at my mods page.

Since I've decided not to go with the outboard EQ, I've recently ordered the Metra Kit to house a single DIN since it won't do me any good to have a dash with an EQ hole in it and no EQ.

I'm sure there will be a big difference in the quality of worksmanship between the two. The one I paid $220 for is as solid as a rock. It really was quality work. There will be no comparison between the two concerning quality of construction. Metra will lose that one.

Of course, I could buy 10 Metra kits for what the original kit cost me.

Since my system is still a work in progress, check my page occasionally.

any one with a little extra time could take the metra kit smooth it out and color match paint to match the rest of the dash for about 10-15 bucks and it would look like it came from the factory, and it would be alot cheaper than the really expensive custom made ones

It's usually in my signature. If it doesn't show this time, go to http://www.cardomain.com/id/bozzchem

I just started Raammatting the doors as well as replacing the ID Chameleons with the JBL Flagship GTi series comps. It never ends............BTW, if you want to purchase the kit with the EQ cutout, PM me. You'll get it for a much better price than I did!!

Have you actually done so? I don't think it is as easy as you have stated it is. If you have already done so, please provide us with the number for the color matched paint along with the paint manufacturerer's name/number that will provide for a factory look install of the kit provided that the proper surface preparation has been taken care of.

If you haven't done the research and ironed out the details....let us know when you do.

I'm not trying to knock you but I think that you've missed the differences between the sublelties of the stock dash coloration. I've got a $220 kit that doesn't match. Metra sells a $20 kit that doesn't match.

If you have the key to the color match that the rest of us don't know about, I'm guessing we'll be all ears concerning it!
