Daaaamn, my new system rocks!!! Boston's are NICE...

Yup, just got it back from the shop and I am extremely pleased, to say the least. First off, lemme just agree with others when they say that the stock speakers suck. After I took a look at those paper cones, I was pissed I didn't change these a long time ago. And the Boston Pros have absolutely insane mids and highs. It's really weird hearing all the diff parts of music. I have yet to try other types of music, but my trance and hip hop really play well on the Pros. I'm still fine tuning the system, and I think I may have to take it back to the shop to dial down the tweets cuz they are pretty sharp right now at the 0 level.

For those with Boston Pro components, what did you dial your tweets too? -2 or -4?

I also have the Kenwood MP3 player for those interested in MP3 receivers, and so far, it's pretty cool. Havne't fooled around much with it since I haven't read the instructions, but I'll post more when I figure everything out.

cheers,

There is a switch on your crossover where you can attenuate your Boston Pro tweets 3db. That might help it out. Find out where your shop installed them or ask them to do it for you. Ask where they set them at. The titanium tweets are kinda harsh, boston makes a silk dome tweet that they include in their Rally component set that sound smooth and warm.

What kind of amp are you running them off of? Are you getting any subs?

Might think about bypassing the Bose EQ as described by AllanC. Just reducing the tweet levels will only reduce the volume in relation to the mid drivers not the abrasivness in the music. The Bose EQ boosts the upper levels which is way too much for more revealing speakers. After bypassing the EQ, you'll have a much more natural sounding music.

I'm a little confused.

Can I still bypass the Bose EQ even if I don't have the Bose HU in? I tore out the old HU and replaced it with an MP3/CD receiver.

Yeah, you're right Wampum. Boston Pro crossover can set the tweets at 0 db, -2, or -4 db. Right now, it's at 0. So I think I'm gonna bring it all the way down to -4 b/c they're just so harsh! I guess I went with Pro over Rally b/c they're considered the best Boston line even tho I'd probably like the silk dome tweets better. But I figured if I dialed the tweets down on the crossover, then I'll get nice sounding tweets along with the kickass mids from the Pro 6.5"s!

Oh, I'm running the fronts off a PPI PC2300 amp (last yr's model) and my JL 12" W3 sub off a new Phoenix Gold Tantrum 300.2 amp.

UCLAtl.... its too harsh right now? dont worry, you'll grow into it... im serious... wheni just got my MB Quart PSC's i had to turn the treble down from the center poing (on stock HU)...later on set on center... on i sometime bring it up just a notch to get the highs.... maybe my ears are phucked up ....

Yeah, actually, I have been starting to grow into it now.

Last nite, I just stayed home and played diff kinds of music, including MP3's, and it all plays great. I think the only music that is too harsh is my trance/techno. There are a lot of synthesized cymbals and other high-pitched crashes that never come up on a normal system but kill ur ears with amped and played thru the componenets!
But all my other music feeds off the sharp, crisp highs.

So, I guess I'm glad I got the titanium tweets but also glad there is an attenuator which I'll probably just put down one notch (there are 3 settings) next time I take it in to the shop.
