custom sub enclosures...

i have seen many people on here who have made custom enclosures for their subs in their trunks. I want to do this but i am not sure on how to go about this, what materials i need, etc. Any suggestions about anything?

most of it is people showing off what theyve done, or quick inbetween pics.. and basic stuff like where to run the power wire, wheres the ground, yada yada. I was trying to figure out what kind of materials I'm going to need, where i can buy some carpet lookin stuff to match the lining in our trunks and any recommendations on the build... but guess i can always try and rely on my unreliable friends..

it depends how complicated it is. for more complicated boxes go with fiber glass for more squarish boxes some MDF board will do, along with other materials

im trying to install 2 10's 2 12's and 2 amps but get rid of the squarish boxes that take up so much room in the trunk and mount them in custom enclosures so they will fit in the trunk and leave it nice looking but still functionally available. for the fiber glass route, did u make like a premold or sumthing how does that work? and what did u use to match the carpet stuff in the trunk covering the enclosures?

i got two squarish boxes for my 4 10's. i took some of the carpet with me and went to a fabric store by my house and matched it up.
i ran the wires through the middle of the car. i have a power block under the rear seat where a power wired attached to it and if anything else needs to be powered i connect it their instead of taking the center council all out again.
the boxes, amp, 2 tvs. all made by me and help from my dad.

this is an old pic. a lot of the wires have been rerun to look cleaner.

take masking tape, to line the trunk wherever u want the custom box to fit, then u need to fiber glass the trunk(the part you masked off), it will dry and pop right out, shave off the rigid pieces, take 12 inch or 10 inch (whatever size sub u want) mdf rings, with wooden sticks. glue them together then glue them to the back of the fiberglass mold u have, that will create the skeleton for the box in a sense, then wrap some fabric over it (they make a special fabric for fiberglassing), pull it tight over the rings and fiber glass mold you have, fiber glass that, sand, fiber glass again, sand, bondo, sand, and paint or wrap in carpet. once ur dun u can reach in and pull out those wooden sticks

Thats the general run down of everything that is involved. I have a detailed instruction kit on my home computer if ud like me to email it to u.

Telling you what you need is like trying to guess the loto numbers. It really all depends on what you want. Most boxes are square or square shape with covers to hide the shape or the front surface molded to a shape. You can cut out circular rings with the sub hole cut out in the middle, support them with bracing from underneath, go to the fabric store get some cotton cloth and stretch it over the top and onto the sides, cover it with fiberglass resin and let it dry, adding a few coats to make it thicker and strong. Sand smooth and finish in your desired finish. The carpet to match can be bought at most fabric stores or car audio shops
