CLS sub output on HU

So I just got a box installed this weekend, and they tapped into the 6x9's. So now the entire bass for the car is controlled up front with the bass control on the head unit. Therefore if i want the subs lowered the cabin sounds all tinny cause they are getting no bass from the front or 6x9's...not sure if this is common. Is there any other way to just control the sub volume without affecting the rest of the bass with the stock head unit? Or is it worth getting the remote amp control, and raise and lowe the gains as needed?

Although i was trying to do this in stages, I have a feeling most of your responses will be just to replace the rest of the system....

If I understand your system, you actually don't have a control for the R 6x9's. The bass control is a tone control for the overall signal, NOT a volume control for the 6x9's.

I believe that your system has full-range unamplified F and R signals from the HU to the amp, and the amp mixes F and R into one for the 6x9 woofers. If this is correct, regardless of fader position, you have 6x9 bass - but no direct control over it.

I believe that there are two solutions.

1) (from Crutchfield.com) Optional Remote Level Control: This amplifier's level can be controlled remotely with the optional RUX-4180 Subwoofer Level Control.

If you use that, you can control the amp...

2) You could jettison the OE amp and driver the Alpine amp with the R preamp OP, and a new amp with the F preamp OP... and your fader would then be a subwoofer level control.

Thats good news...Thanks elduderino. I just looked at the RUX-4180, its cheap and probably something I can install myself. The other remote for the Alpine amp, from alpine costs like $90, and they wanted something like $50 just to install it. Thanks for the advice!!

I have remote gain control for my bass and I highly recommend it. Depending on the song and also the source of the music the volume of the bass can vary a lot so having a gain control allows you to keep the bass at the exact volume you want. It's especially good for times when you wanna completely turn the bass off, like when you go into residential neighborhoods late at night.

so I'm planning on ordering the RUX-4180 today. Does anyone know if the max setting on the remote control is set to the gain setting I have set now on the amp? or does it negate that setting and use the full range of the amp? I guess I'd rather the max be kept at the setting I have now, cause I know this way i'll never blow the subs, and i know i'll never want to hear them louder than now...just want the ability to make them softer

any ideas? i'll def know for sure once I plug it in...i spent this much already whats another $30 :-)
