Talking Clifford? How much? Avant Guard 4?

Does anyone have the Clifford AvantGuard 4? How much does it cost?

actually .. I got a quote for an avantgarde in my area .. I think the guy wanted 800 for it .. installation included.

which actually was what I was gonna ask about. I am also considering an alarm and I've had a clifford in the past and I think its the way to go again unless someone has reasons otherwise. I also am kinda shaky on the fact that they themselves went out of business and they got bought over by DEI. Now, the NEW cliffords will be under warranty by DEI but they dont' hold the warranty for the old ones. now, will this crap happen again? Sigh, makes you wonder, how such a decent alarm company went under. I mean they simply smack the pants off their competitors, including DEI's viper, but ironic that they got bought by them

Check www.clifford.com and look at the features.

You may consider solaris.

It's cheaper but almost the same technology.
It just doesn't have some features like flashing lights and stuff.

well.. this is it .. after tomorrow.. I'd have shelled out 500 dizzoes to dump in an IQ7000 with additions I just can't bring myself to pay 800 for the avant4 with all the bells and whistles that I dont really need. besides, gotta save up for the audio system instead

I'm gonna get the Viper 550, with the remote starter and proximity sensor for about $500.

I'd say those two are roughly equal in price. I didn't feel like I wanted to leave a piece of my key inside the car so I opted for no remote start. I have cats around my house so I said no to proximity sensor. My extras are for a glass tampering sensor, a self powered siren, and a serial port interface for me to patch into the system from a laptop to do all my "user preferences" for the alarm >: )

yea, I have no cat, so proximity sensor is good for me. I have to park in packed university, so I don't like it when people are dinging up my car. I like the remote starter. I would also like the interface. How does that work?

in MY university, a proximity sensor is just asking for the thing to beep endlessly since fools drive by so close to your cars in the garage. and then these fewls drive by with ricecop violation exhausts and set off the vibration sensors. I just can't win. I'll just have to set the vibration sensors to low or something.

oh yea, the PC interface. I think I've only seen Clifford advertise about it .. see here http://www.clifford.com/cp_wizard.htm

I was told by my installer that the program will even tell you what sensor triggered off the last alarm. I'll have to try all this out and tell you about it. definitely a plus for us computer types

Hells yea, let me know about the PC interface when you get the clifford. I think I'll get it too, just for the interface anyways it's the same company Viper and Clifford is both owned by DEI.

actually, I just downloaded the program from that website it gave you. if you're on a cable modem or some fast connection, you can download it, install it, and try it out in "offline mode". its pretty pissed, I get to customize my alarm sounds and set up all my user preferences. unfortunately, I don't see a damn setting for "sensitivity" guess the only way to do that one is still from the remote. grr. or maybe it'll show up when I have it connected. I can say this so far and I don't intend to rain on your parade or anything like that but it seems like I only see clifford "features" in the settings.

Cool, yea I do have cable modem. I am actually working on a project website for school tomorrow. Had a whole month to do it, but waited till the last night. Oh well. I'll check it out later.

BTW, what did you meant about features? after you said, you didn't mean to rain on my parade. I didn't understand what you mean?

heheh.. college life at its best .. beers, women, last minute projects, all niters, thats what its all about man!!

oh .. about the features, I meant that its highly unlikely that this thing might work with your viper. but maybe someone else who's tried before can say for sure. Theres like radio buttons for the Blakjax anti carjacking, how to engage the autolocks, the nightvision, and the valet code... all clifford stuff.. and even then, before you start, you have to pick a clifford system to muck with.

Well your right about most of it except the women and beer and party part. I live at home so I don't see none of it. I work all day long and at night go to school. Sucks!

Well what I meant was I might consider getting the Clifford too, since that was what I originally wanted to get. But not the AvantGuard 4 it's way to expensive. Maybe something less. Like what you are getting Miwa.

Joey, they should install the serial port 4 ur alarm when they install.

When I got mine, he did all the programming with the laptop.
I just have to find out where the port is..
Call the guy and set the appointment.

The thing is, I don't know if they have it for the Viper. I wanna be totally sure. Hey Slick, we still on for Wednesday for the auto show right? I'm gonna go down to your place meet up with you ride to Streeteffectz, drop off my car and then go pick up B, then head to NYC. Is that ok? I'll call you later today.

u know something that miffs me a little? they bolted my self powered siren onto the sway bar.. thats just damn great if I wanna change it :P good thing that isn't too big on my 'to do' list.. I'm sure I can have em move it .. but still. I was 'thinking' of asking where they were gonna put the siren but I said fuqit .. oh well. it was also a good thing I told em not to put the plainview valet switch into the missing foglight switch position. otherwise I can't even add legit foglight switch later :P

so .. point is, you might wanna go over the installation locations with the installer .. but oh wait, you're gonna be taken care of by streeteffectz right? I'm sure he wont do something that boneheaded

I still gotta discuss with him about that, he's gonna be installing my video navi decoder box. Well, I'll go over everything with him this Saturday when I see him, we'll make a plan.
