Clifford Avantguard

Hey all, I was just wondering what you think. I was quoted from Pacific-Stereo in Fullerton for an install of the avantguard 4 alarm system at around $700 est. This is if I take my own alarm in there and just have them install it...Now I know that it has a lot of stuff to install, but isn't that a little too much?

I then called Al and Ed's Auto/Sound and got quoted around $200 for the same install. Do they do good work there or should I not trust them with my car?

What is a good price for this alarm? I know a guy that wants to sell his new avantguard for 250, if the person that he sold it to doesn't pull through on the deal. He says it's new and he just got rid of his car so he doesn't have anything to install it on right now. Anyways, can anyone offer a good price maybe from a carshop they work at or maybe a friend's shop?

Anyways, what do you electronics people think? Should I trust the seller, al and ed's install, or go with the more expensive approach of buying the alarm new from a store and getting it installed for a total of 1k+?

Thanks!!

the clifford avauntguard 4 is supposed to be a complicated install... i would only go with a certified clifford installer... you can check out the website www.clifford.com toy see who's in your area. It took the guys who did mine a day and a half so i can imagine that's why it's kinda expensive...

Go to a Clifford Installer so you can get the warranty & have it done correct. The price given of $800+ or more is in the ballpark for this model. The last add from my installer this spring had other Clifford models listed. The Solaris he had regular price $799.95 sale price $549 that has built- in Remote Start /Dual Zone Impact Sensor. The IG8000 model that I have in my car regular price $649.99 sale price $549.99. The Avantguard is more exspensive & has more features included. You can also dress up the other models to do the same except windows & some lighting features.

Well Son of a B!tch.......well the guy I was suppose to get it from just got contacted by his first customer and he did decide to buy it so no alarm that way. Anyone have a good price on this? If outside of my area, which is So Cal near Anaheim, I could just buy the alarm and have it installed?? Thanks...

The price I gave you was the price of the alarm system plus its installation. So like the Solaris model they had cost $549 thats the whole cost with installation minus tax.

when i had my accord, i thought long and hard about the a4 but finally decided to get it. unfortunately, the car was totalled before i could install but i did save a lot of money though! i agree it's a complicated install. when i was pricing that alarm, al and eds wanted $1000 for the alarm with installation...which i think is average. my buddy has installed one in his car so you might want to try him. if anything, he can maybe try to give you a better price. he is authorized viper and clifford.

solaris is cool too...remote start is the main feature but you can add whatever you'll need.

tai at ben stereo in the city of industry. it's on the northwest corner (behind the 76 station) of gale and stimson (hacienda blvd exit off the 60 freeway - go north). 626.336.3327. i saw him today and he said one of our members is coming in tuesday for an alarm install...sorry, don't recall the alarm in question nor the guy's name.

Yah, installing a high end Clifford alarm can be expensive. For example, I have the Intelliguard 7000, which I paid slightly over Cdn $1,300 (includes alarm, labor, 3 Clifford LEDs in custom locations, glass sensor, pager, BlackJax) - approx. US $860. It took the shop one and a half days to install too. Not only that, but my shop does everything with heat shrink and soldering (minimal use of butt connectors). What's important in installing an alarm system or a stereo system is the quality of the work done. You can have an expensive alarm (or stereo) but if installed improperly, will give you problems. Keep this in mind before you spend your $$$. Good luck!

Thanks for the input guys! I will check that shop out in City of Industry...its not all that far from me.

Yeah, as for install, I know that it will be an arm and a leg for this alarm, but I am hoping to add some video and audio equipment and want to have a good alarm on my car. I know that if they want it they will get it, but at least I am trying.

I agree with the other posts. The clifford alarm is very complicated. I had one install on my 240 and it took almost a month for the "authorized" installer to get it right. It had all the bells and whistles too. (Smart windows, trunk release, remote engine start...etc.)

You should ask this question to who ever you decide to go to:

"Have you ever installed the Clifford alarm on a Acura TL?"

I got mine installed at the f**k**g good guys in tustin.

Hehe, yeah I now don't really trust good guy installs unless I know for a fact that they know what they are doing. My friend worked there and he said that most installs on more expensive things were like a first experience for him....

Anyways, the place that I most likely will goto definitely knows what they are doing.

You should also look into getting a pager with your alarm system and a hook lock. Really recommend the later, as it really protected my system from theft. I was coming out of school Sat. afternoon going to my car. I saw 4 guys around my car just leaving. They got into their Mustang and took off. By the time I got to my car, I noticed that my alarm went off. They cut into my grill so they could pull the hood cable (in order to pop my hood) but it stopped them. The punks also screwed around with my windows too. I had the pager too, but unfortunately I was in a concrete bldg and was too far away. Now this all happened about 5-6 years ago when I had my Toyota Camry Sport. Had about Cdn $10,000 worth of stereo equipment (it was my daily driver as well as competition vehicle). Morale of the story? Alarm by itself will not help. Hood lock in conjunction with alarm system will protect your car. The only way those punks could have ripped me off was to either tow my car or carjack me. If you're planning to add expensive video/stereo equipment, it's the only way to protect your toys. Good luck!

No, I would never trust a complicated alarm install with Revo! My alarm for my then Camry was done by a friend, and the alarm system for my TL was done by Audiolines. I really recommend the latter, as they are really professional and they do great work. They are located on Brighton Avenue/Lougheed Hwy in Burnaby. Hey Sam, you should take a look at the system in my other car, it will knock your socks off! It was installed by Audiolines.

Hey Patrick, I went to about 5 different reputable alarm shops in my area and all say that a "hood lock" cannot be put in a Tl, they say there's not enough room under the hood for it to fit. Is it different in your area? Are they able to install hoodlocks in TL's
