CL-S Needs Subwoofer but How?

I love the CL so far w/ 4300 miles on it but I think the stereo's bass can use some vast improvement. When I'm blasting, the treble sounds great, the midrange is solid but when when a beat breaks, the speakers sound like a karaoke singer.

What have people seen for a subwoofer addition? I don't want a bazooka and I don't want to have anything in the trunk or sitting on the back seat. Is the Bose system capable of a subwoofer addition or do I have to rip it out? (I don't want that). I'd really like to just add a speaker in the middle of the rear and be done with it.

Let me know what people have done about this apparent problem.

Not many AV gurus responding.....

I have also queried this and the opinion is to add a mono amp + sub. From previous research, it seems like a single 12" is more verstile than dual 10".

I cannot decide whether to go with a 5 or 6 channel amp to power 4 speakers + sub or just do a mono amp + 12" sub..

Well, it's not that we don't want to respond, it's just that we dont know what to respond. The issue is simple yet complicated. He just wanna add more bass but wanna have a sub on the rear deck which no one w/ a CL (that I know of) has considered before. Putting a sub there requires extensive modification to the car, including cutting the metal deck, re-work the supporting system for the trunk lid and more. I couldn't give him an exact answer so I had to keep the silent waiting for an expert's voice.

Regarding your issue, please see your thread.

I have the same Question. Think i've decided to go with 1 12 instead of 2 10s, but looking for further advise. Doing a search for information on the A/V forum.

you should look into an alumapro sub. they arent too expensive and they dont take up much room in the trunk and provide nice bass yet not overpowering. go to www.alumapro.com or look on ebay. here is a pic of one.

You need a pretty good sub to enhance the sound quality...I don't think a single 8" is gonna do it....you need at least 2 8"s or a 12".....the car is really solid...so don't expect too many if any rattles.

The quality of the bass you get will depend on the box if the subs are the same. 2 10"s in a well-designed ported/bandpass box can actually hit harder and cleaner than 2 12"s in a cheapo sealed circuit city box. Remember if you get a bandpass box that you cannot get any old box. The bandpass box must be specifically designed for that sub.
