Changing the HU; is it worth it?

hi, my system is totally stock(Bose, 97' CL). I've got my JVC HU from my old car and was wondering if the swap is worth the effort. The JVC is a 50wx4 with mp3 capability from 05' I believe.

I did try searching but nothing really popped up

Depends on you. I'm not sure how the Bose in a 1G CL sounds but in the 2G TL IMO, despite being amplified, it wasn't very loud nor did it sound very good. An aftermarket head-unit gives you a cleaner sound with less distortion and better customization options. I really wanted an aftermarket headunit because I wanted to listen to music on my iPhone instead of burning a bunch of CDs.

Chances are though, going to a shop and paying for them to put it in isn't worth it. They'll probably charge you close to how much it costs for a new head unit. If you do it yourself, IMO its worth it.

I'm not sure if the 1G CL Bose system is amplified though, chances are it is. You would probably be better off bypassing the factory amp(s) if it is factory amplified.

I've had an alpine headunit running on the bose speakers on my 2g TL and I really didnt like it. Besides the fact that the aftermarket deck cuts power to sub. The door speakers didnt sound as clear and loud and they would have if the original deck was in. Im not sure if the 1G CL's bose sub will work if you install the aftermarket HU. I know there is a way to turn on the bose sub with an aftermarket HU on the 2G TLs. But you gotta cut some wires. I'd recommend leaving the stock deck in if youre not going to upgrade anything else.

thx, I'm actually am pretty good with stereo installation. Since it seems up in th air on whether it would sound better, I'll fork out the money for a harness so it's no big deal if I want to put the stock one back in. I luckily or unluckily dont have a sub. Just front speakers with tweeters and the rears.
now to order a harness.
