CDT Components....HELP

Guys,

I'm trying to figure out if these components will fit in my 00 TL. I remember someone saying that there is about 2-2.25" of depth in the front doors. The set I'm looking at are the CDT HD-62's and they are 2 7/8" deep. Is this gonna be a problem? If I put like a 3/4" spacer on there will they stick out? The rears should be ok. They are the CL-6x and are 2.25" deep.

Anyone who has components please list your specs!!!!

Thanks

Yes, the CDT's fit. A few members have installed CDT's in the TL. I also have a 2000 and was able to drop the CDT's in with a 3/4" wood spacer.

I'll let you know in a bit, I have the CL-61a set and have 3/4" spacers for them. Waiting to get my deck to install, but I read a couple of threads that said they fit fine with the spacer. Check out thezeb.com for great deal on the CL-61s, I got mine quick with no probs.

they will fit for sure. you will need to fabricate spacer and cut the inner door speaker "ring". what I did personnaly is to grind the bottom grille of the stock spacer so the magnet goes in, and I grinded the top location tabs, and beveled the original screw hole so I could bolt the stock spacer and add another spacer flat on it, not sitting on the screw. I had to put a 3/8 spacer or so, and glued it to the stock spacer (just to be sure it wouldn't move) and then drilled to the spacer and tru the door in order to put metal screw in there, that hold the speaker, goes throught the spacer and outside of the stock spacer. not the cleanest looking install, but much quicker than mdf ring (i used the cdt grill mouting ring and some thin wood to make the top spacer)
I've mounted CDT CL-61 in my dad's car, but was so impressed by the listening test I did in my own car for a week with these speaker than my HD-62 will be here next week. BTW. I finished the install in the TL tuesday, and my dad came back from a business trip yesterday night and add a first listening session. he called me and told me it was the best audio system he ever had in a car.

Very Nice....thanks guys for all the responses. I have to order them today cuz the GB ends on them. I think I'm getting a great deal.....It's gonna come out to about $310 for the HD-62's and the CL-6x's. I have a guy on a car audio forum who lives and deals out of Florida. Has a lot of high end car audio equipment.

VTEC,

What model CDT's did you install?

Lightbeing,

I installed the cl-61's. Although most 6.5 CDT drivers are the same depth wise. There is a rubber cover over the magnet that you can remove if u need an extra 1/8" or so.

Also, check you PM.

BTW,

here's a pic of the midbass driver install using a 3/4" wooden spacer. I did not need to cut the metal on the door at all.

Where'd you end up putting the tweeters? Any pics of that? I'm planning on the 1" ones in the doors by the woofers and the 3/4" ones in the A-Pillar. Great pic, now I know how mine will fit.

Personnally, I would install image tweeter at the base of A pillar, firing to the opposite top of a pillar (so the sound cross the windshield diagonally and is parallel to it) and the for the main tweeter, I guess that kick would be the best place. the woofer location offer too much side-bias. Having to do an install like yours "CDN A-spec", I would install the 1" silk tweeter flush mouted in the kick plastic panel, under the hood lever, and similary located on the passenger side. I would aim them right at the dome light,. so both will be pretty on-axis with your ears, and about equidistant, resulting in best imagin and sound linearity.

In my father's car, I got the stock silk tweeter with the cl-61, and installed them on the dash, firing at the dome light, and the imaging is very potent. still not as in my living room, but infinitly better than stock.

I'll check that out, would make for an interesting install. Thanks for the info, I'll check out possible locations (ie. tear apart the kick panel) this weekend.
