I had the same problem with mine. THe dealer didn't believe me and gave me a hard time because they are not regular commerical made cd's. I told him to try that cdr that doesn't work in my car in a brand new car on the lot, which he did, and it worked fine so they replaced the HU, but said it was a 'one time thing'. Ya, whatever. I'll be back in about a year to have it replaced again once it decides to stop working.
I also contacted Bose on my own about this, but they were less than helpfull

as for which cd player to get, it seems that pioneer has hit this market hard so you should be fine w/a mid level pioneer model...

The Unit is by Pioneer and it's model number is FH-MG6106ZH2.
I had mine since March and until I changed it, it played every CD-R there is...silver, blue, green, even Black Surfaced CD-R!!
yeah, definitely bring it in and have it changed!

Just take it in for a new one. I'm on my 3rd. It will play all cdr's for a few months and then stop, thats when I call Acura.

Assuming that the deck will still play regular CDs without any problems (I assume this to be the case above)--how is it that the deck will play CDRs fine for a few months, then stop playing them while still being able to play regular CDs? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think that these decks have separate laser pickups for regular CDs and CDRs, do they?

bobatimez - just tell them that your unit 'used' to play CD-R and all of a sudden it stopped. As long as your car's still under warrenty, they should be happy to replace it for you. If they're giv'in you problem, go try it on a few cars in the lot and show'em. NOTE: not all of them can play CD-R, so if the first car in the lot don't do the trick, go to another one.
tdoh - I think Joe or Jack is just out of luck. my friend's 00TL also couldn't play CD-R when he first bought it, he had it changed by the dealer and it's been playing ever since.
Basically, a lightbeam is reflected off a cd and is read by a decoder. different color surface produces different lightrays and some machines may not be able to read them, some may even produced an error and hence bust your reader. (ie, never play green or blue surface CD on PS1, it'll kill it!)
bigjoejack - are you using blue or green surface CD-R? that maybe the cause of demaging your player, try to stick with Silver surface CD-R.
just my $.02

I too would like to know the exact answer to this one ...
but my guess is that prolong use of non-silver CD will demage the reader it's reading capabilities. just like many Panasonic DVD player will play some VCD, but not all...sort of like killing portion of a bandwidth except digitally.
stick with silver bottom CD-R and I'm sure it'll be alright.

CD-R type
I too have been vexed with the fact that our Bose system doesn't play every type of CD-R out there...I have been debating whether to get a new head unit or stick with the existing system and get a CD chager....BUT I have noticed that CDs with the blue bottom (not green, yellow, clear, etc.) BLUE....WORKS....(at least for me)...Aside from the fact that it is too expensive to change out my system, I like the way the stock system is laid out....I think aftermarket stuff is cool, but looks VERY awkward...So I decided to go stock...anyway, that's beside the point...try the BLUE bottomed CD's...they may work...It does for me...

i just got my TL, used 2001 with 3000 miles, n i noticed right away that it has problems with the cd player and CD-rs. Once it starts stalling, i just turn it off than on and then it works. also when i try to move to the next track by pressing (->) it stalls, then again i turn it off n on. i don't know if its like this for your car but will it get worse for me, to the point where it doesn't work for Cd-Rs, and also i use Sony cds.

Mine was playing em all when i first got it -- now its refusing Digitech, Imation, some Phillips brand CDR's -- its playing my starlogic ones fine -- but only if burned at 8X or less -- if i burn at 10 or 12X -- its sounds all scratchy and staticy
