I'm building this new down-fire 8" sub enclosure. I'm having trouble deciding on the front cover plate. Originally I just made a 1/2" carbon fiber cover. My metal fab guy tells me that I should do a clear front instead. HA! I told him it was a dumb idea but guess what I did after he left?

To feed your curiosity......

- It's for a 3rd Gen TL or TL-S
- It is housing a JL Audio 8W3V2-2
- It is made of fiberglass and carbon fiber. Trunk matched carpet.
- Yes.... it beats.

cf looks tough. but the clear is more interesting

 

i vote clear. looks a lot cleaner imo.

 

I like the clear, but the CF looks way nicer

 

The ONE time I vote against CF.

 

I like the clear plexi w/carpet. What about and option of either CF/plexi?

How about a flat surface to mount an amp as another option?

Any combo is an option and there are plenty of places to mount an amp in that trunk.

Personally, I wouldn't have a cut-out at all. Ultimate stealth status.

 

This would be my no 1 choice

Between your two options I would choose clear

Just kidding..... kinda. My cohorts and I were betting on how long it would take for somebody to question why the cutout is there at all. BECAUSE... it would look damn tight to see absolutely nothing.

But... answer me this! How do you mount the box with no cutout? Or what if the cutout was not big enough to fit a drill through?

I used a fellow AZ member's TL today to test fit and run the new sub and enclosure. It RAILS. I didn't push it very hard and we were listening to FM radio. It performed way better than I expected.

In the pics you'll see the cable. When installed that runs behind your carpet. Not visible at all.

Clear is okay but carbon looks bad ass!

 

It wouldn't fit. This enclosure was built for this sub. The 8W7 has a total front diameter of 8.5". The total front diameter of this setup is barely over 8". Perfect fit for the 8W3V2.

 

that clear does look sweet installed though nice work

 

Cover the cutout in carpet. It would be difficult to see the line with the way you carpet stuff.

 

I'd go with CF. Not only does it look awesome, but also I don't think the inside of the box is all that appealing to look at. It just looks like unfinished fiberglass. Travis, what about a piece of frosted glass/plexi?

 

I completely agree with that. My honest preference would be matched carpet. I'm not a fan of BLING. If it were up to me everything would be flat black with a blacked out "TL" badge.

+1 Inside of box isn't appealing to me.

The only benefit to clear is if you wanted to put some LED action in there...IMO.

Frosted glass/plexi could look nice with lighting...again my

I hear you though. This isn't the final version of the slim box. But when I fab up that sucker I have some special carbon fiber for it.

that is currently the new home for my PDA and my work clipboard...I did some moving, the shelf is the box's new home

 

Id go with cf just for appeal. Both of them are the hotness though now you just need to take our opinions and run with it.
