From my research prior to changing everything but my head unit - there isn't a way to make a different h/u attach to your steering wheel controls but there is a product made by PAC called the SWI Factory Steering Wheel Radio Control Interface. Go to their site and click PRODUCTS and then look down for the SWI. It uses the remote that comes with your new h/u to transmit the IFR to the SWI module that attaches to your steering wheel controls.

I've used this $70 PAC product SWI-3 for my Honda (same as TL) steering wheel controls. It's great! You basicaly use it like a learning remote control for your steering wheel buttons. Hold up your new headunit remote control to the SWI-3, press your steering wheel button then corresponding button on the remote control.
If your sharp with this kind of stuff you can even mount more buttons on your steering wheel using the supplied resistor network. Radio Shack has nice momentery black push buttons that fit right into the screw holes on the back side of the steering wheel mounts. A little epoxy holds them in place. That is a total of 7 buttons (4 new) to control your headunit. The unit will accept up to 17 buttons!
Hope that helps,
Steve
