TL: Can I go from 1/8 inch plug to USB on Aux input?
Can I go from 1/8 inch plug to USB on Aux input?
I have an older Kenwood Excelon HU. I have the Aux input running a 1/8" plug so I can connect a MP3 player through its headphone jack. Right now I'm using my Blackberry, which has a 8gb mini-sd card in it.
Would I get better sq going from the usb input on the blackberry vs the headphone jack? And if so, any way to get the 1/8" plug adapted to USB?
thx!

USB is a digital bus so the signals on it are digital. The data on a USB connection can be many things- music (in MP3, AAC, many other formats) and data (titles of songs).
A 1/8 (mini) jack is analog - can be connected to earphones, headphones, speakers.
The two will not connect without some conversion - and the conversion is not simple.
Just to pick one example, an Ipod (or your Blackberry) converts digital music to analog - you connect earphones (via a 1/8 inch mini-jack).
I know of no "box" that converts from USB to 1/8 mini-jack.

thanks for the link. The only reason I would want something like that is if it would improve the SQ. Based on some responses, it doesn't seem like that's the case. I remember that for an iPod, there was an arguement that using the iPod connector at the bottom of the iPod would give better SQ than using the headphone jack.
