buying online

I am lookin to buy a Fosgate 1000bd the 2002 model and I cant find it at any authorized dealer online or in town. I see some on ebay but is this a safe thing to do. I always bought from a authorized dealer. Would it be better if I got it from Onlinecarstereo.com

I have had a great experience buying from www.etronics.com They have great prices on most of their car audio and video equipment. I made several purchases from them and even some returns on some non-compatible equipment and it was a really easy process.

I've bought car audio repeated from an eBay seller called "bumper2bumper7" and I've never had a problem. Everything was factory fresh. Only issue you will have is if the item goes bad during the warranty period because you wont have a receipt to send to the manufacturer. Since most audio doesnt come with a very long parts and labor warranty anyway, this might not be a big issue for you.
I can tell you that i had a tweeter go bad with my Polk MOMO separates and Polk honored it under warranty even without a receipt. I got it under warranty replacement because I made the arguement that the model hadnt even been out for 3 years yet when i had the problem so as far a being within their 3 year warranty for the speakers, it HAD to still be covered from a timing perspective. They agreed.

I have pretty much bought everything online for my systems. Sure, you will give up the factory warranty but, here is my point about it.

I bought a brand new Kicker 10" L7 for $150 plus shipping. If I go to my local Kicker place, it is going to run about $279 plus tax with warranty. So, roughly twice the price. If my sub were to blow, I could buy another and be at the same price as the local sub. And I had the sub 2 years and sold it to someone else and it is still going strong. You just have to weigh the options. It is a risk I am willing to take when I buy.

I'm with AcuraX2. I buy EVERYTHING online. I saved over $100 on my HU, over $75 on my changer, over $100 on my JBL/Stinger cap, ~$30 on my USAcoustics amp, over $75 on my EQ, over $100 on my ID Chameleons, and ~$175 on my IDMAX.

You're looking at about $650 saved. 90% of it came with a warranty equivalent to the manufacturer's. In other words, most unauthorized merchants will match the manufacturer's warranty.

I'd also suggest using a Gold/Platinum Visa/Mastercard because it doubles the agreed upon warranty.

I only buy locally when I need it yesterday.

Good luck.
