Bridging OEM HU 4 channel to 2 Channel
Hi all.
I need some advice.
Presently, I’ve installed a 2000TL Bose system into a 64 Austin Healey 3000 using 2 of the 4 HU channels connected to component Infinity 4-Ohm mids and tweeters (see pics in my photo album). At present, I am using 2 of the 4 door-speaker channels and was wondering if I could bridge the 4 HU channels into 2. Wanting to keep the stereo separation, I was thinking of connecting the driver door (-) to the left rear (+) and the passenger door (-) to the right rear (+). Normally, bridging would consist of connecting the right and left together but that would produce mono sound and I want to maintain stereo.
As a side note, I am using the Bose equalizer/pre-amp and have installed the sub amp and woofer inside the spare wire wheel (wheel becomes a rather restricted enclosure but that’s the only space available) in the trunk with acceptable success.
I know installing a new amp would be one alternative but I would like to maintain the Bose system if at all possible.
Thanks and all the best,
RAC68

you should be able to do this, but I'd check impedance first... It should be the same as bridging an aftermarket 4 channel amp to push 2 speakers... At least, i'm pretty sure this will work, but someone with more experience with the Bose and TL stereo's could chime in and tell you more...

Bridging cancelled but Woofer mounted
Thanks for your advice. I have decided not to channel bridge.
As a side note, I have installed the woofer inside the trunk-mounted wire wheel by installing the speaker in a round mounting board and (temporarily) hot gluing the board inside the wheel. The wheel is mounted with wires and hub up and laid on the floor of the trunk. Although this enclosure leaves little speaker-back air volume, with a small pre-amp mounted before the OEM amp for increased power and adjustable volume, the sound is clear and sharp with sufficient thump to be very acceptable. However, with a closed lid, air noise, reasonably loud exhaust note and no open passage between trunk and cabin, I anticipate no noticeable contribution from this woofer when driving.
Thanks again,
Ray
