Unhappy Bose SubWoofer Issues

I've had issues with the frequency response of my Bose system in the '02 TL-S since the day I purchased it. I finally got a Radio Shack sound meter (considered a reliable instrument by the Stereophile folks) and got the Stereophile test disk. In a word, the frequency response in the TL-S is very UNflat, especially in the lower bass, where the subwoofer is up something like 10db+ in the 50hz range.

I've called Bose on three occasions to ask about whether the service manual has a "secret" adjustment for the sub level. No response. I've talked to the dealer, who also says there's no separate adjustment. And NO, the bass tone control is NOT a sub control!

I've asked a number of stereo/car stores if I can put a variable pot/volume switch in-line to trim the sub level. No store wants to touch this project, despite my open wallet.

Anyone out there tackled this problem?
Thanks!

I just got an Infinity BassLink installed in the trunk. It's small and gives off a good kick. I highly recommend it. if you want, you can also get an 8in sub and install it in place of the BOSE.

I agree with you, just put a aftermarket amp and a small 10" sub in your trunk or a 8" Kicker RMB in the stock hole still sound 10 times better than that piece of Bose.

Bose is well known for taking very cheaply made drivers and severely over equalizing the things and calling it great sound. It makes me sick. I really wish my home speakers (Klipsch Klipschorns) could be made for my car .

Bose is 80% marketing and 20% production, salaries, transportation etc. Hell, they won't even release statistics to the public so they can make an informed decision on buying there product or anybody else's. They simply cannot stand the thought of competition even existing.

If i am not mistaken, wouldn't you have to put a free air woofer in the place of the bose woofer. Because there is no box for that bose woofer.
