Bluetooth Car Kit or Car Phones in general

I am planning on installing a Bluetooth car kit in my car pretty soon. Anyone done a car phone install and can offer pointers or answer these questions

1. My plan is to install the kit after the Amp since it will play sound using the speakers in the car. Should I do install the kit before the amp.

2. Also, can I tap into the mute that the Navi uses to mute the stereo (not required because the car kit cuts it out itself.)

3. I prefer not to splice the wires and would like to just build a harrness that can connect to the amp. Are the output plugs available that I coiuld use to build a plug and play connection to the kit.

Thanks
Jake

Hey Jake what's up. My personal opinion being that I sell cellular phones and I own a Acura 3.2 TL is not to get anything permanent in your ride being the fact that Cell phones nowadays are ever changing. What was the hottest phone 8 months ago is being replaced by a new version of the phone ( which in most cases it's the same phone in a diffrent package ) and no longer fits the cradle you have. It can become a real pain in the ass. So if you really want to do this make sure you can update the phone cradle as you would the phone. Good luck.

Not sure you understand.

Bluetooth eleminates all of what you are saying and is soon to be added to many cars from the factory.

Bluetooth is a new short range wireless protocol that allows devices to communcate without the need for wires. I own a ericsson T68 phone which includes this protocol (as most will in a year or so). By using a bluetooth car kit the phone doesn't have to have a cradle...it only has to be in the car. Once in the car, the car kit and the phone recognize each other (similar to what happens if you put an old style phone in a cradle) and the car then can control the phone.

You don't even have to take the phone out of your pocket for this technology to work. BMW, Ford and others have already announced that thy will be making this the new standard they use instead of the old hardwired cradle starting in 2003.

I just need to know how best to hook it up.

http://commerce.motorola.com/consume.../btcarkit.html
most of the car kits that are out now for phones dont use the cars speakers for audio they have their own speaker that is mounted under the dash and from the information given on that kit it isnt clear how it will work. did you find a site with more info?
whats the url?

hey thalegend how do you sell phones and own a bluetooth compatible phone and not know anything about bluetooth its only been out for like 4 years now on gsm phones

Well I work for T-Mobile and we just got the T68m about a month ago. I'm still learning how to use this thing. and to be honest bluetooth has been out for 4 years but only rcently being supported by carrires in the US. We (T-Mobile formerly Voicestream) were one of the first companies to do so. Gsm is still up and coming in the USA even though it has been the standard in europe for about two decades. There are only a few companies who have GSM: Pac bell, Cingular, T-Mobile and AT&T are still setting there network up for GSM. Bluetooth is not all what it's cracked to be I've heard alot of negative remarks like losing connection and fading. I still like my phone but as I said earlier I am still learning the ins and outs. Oh BTW just got word on a inexpensive device..no details yet still playing phone tag.

Bluetooth is never going to make it in the US. Bluetooth is dead over here. Perhaps a Motorola or an Ericsson phone, that's about it for Bluetooth. Nobody is asking for bluetooth in America.

And nobody is about ready to adopt this as some sort of standard, that would be foolish and costly. Don't believe it. And telematics is dying a slow death too. Yes Bluetooth has been lurking around for a couple of years now but it's expensive and I've never tested a bluetooth device that worked [exceptionally well]. What happened to bluetooth headsets and bluetooth printers and bluetooth car chargers?

You are better off getting a full install kit with a exchangeable cradle. They don't cost so much that you can't change them out every other year if you have to. And they much nicer than the overpromised bluetooth kits that people get duped into buying.

Europe, Smurope. Europe doesn't have sh*t on America. Everything over here is better than over there. You must be talking about Asia? Because GSM is a losing technology in the US and in fact most phones in America will not have bluetooth in them. I repeat: not. If you don't believe me that bluetooth and telematic is dead, pickup the latest copy of C&D or check it out here: http://www.caranddriver.com/xp/Caran...telematics.xml

I say this in a negative way because I had great expectations for bluetooth, too; the technology is great in theory but it never came to fruition.

Just for your information, GSM is the standard technology in Europe because there's a law that says it must be; not because it's the best.

Edit: Bottom line is everyone is bailing on telematics and bluetooth is peaking out with only a few bluetooth phones on the US Market and it will be dying out soon. I suggest you go with a nice solid install car kit.

Well the GSM market will force it's way to the US only because it is cheaper than CDMA/TDMA which is used by most wireless companies. Theses companies dont care if it works better for you their looking at what's cost effective for them for the exception of Verizon cuz there just to damn big. So dont believe a Car Magazine, look into wireless weekly. and i agree with you about bluetooth but the sad reality is if they make enough people buy into it it will sell. bottom line. the few people who wont will be people like you and me but that soon wont be an option. We will have no choice. The FCC loves the fact that GSM is entering The US that just means rearranging the they way the charge companies to provide service to us, and dont think they will be thinking about us when they do this. I can go on forever about this, I am on the inside and get involved on a daily basis into discussions about this........you'll see.

Ok, I let my friend Fotis from Verizon handle your GSM-fetish.

When I get time, I read the industry mags but the C&D article is accurate from a consumer standpoint.

I might be a little biased because I work at Sprint but I really believe this.
