blitzsafe auxilary input with nav
blitzsafe auxilary input with nav
I have been reading that our cars have an additional port on the back of the radio that I can plug in a blitzsafe adapter to get an additional input that I want to use for XM radio. The question I have is, is that port still open to use even if we have the factory navigation system, or is being used by the navigation system? Has anyone with navigation installed one of these adapters, if so, how does it work, does it sound clean, any problems getting the plug in to the port. By the way, I have a 2001 CL-S with nav, and am planning to install a delphi Skyfi.
it is my understanding that the port is still free with the nav. i just bought one of those and will attempt an install in a couple of weeks. from what i've heard the sound quality using blitzsafe will be equal to cd and it is the best solution. you will need to take apart the right pannel of the console and you will not need to remove the radio. the port is on the righthand side. if you search the forums you can probably find a picture of the back of the radio. where are you planning on mounting it? i just got delphi and i am thinking about hardwiring it below the "not an ashtray" thingy in front of the shifter (mine is manual, i don't know if autos have the same opening). i think this location is ideal and easy to accomplish. i'm going to make a hole in the little tray that's in front of the shifter and slide a half of the delphi craddle inside it. this way i can remove the radio anytime and there is very minimal damage to the interior as well as "factory" look. i'll post pics once i get around to actually do it.
btw, here's the link for taking the console apart with pictures:

The install is tedious but very simple. The tedious part is getting the part into the whole. It is best to do it without taking out the headunit but it is just difficult making it fit without being able to see it and with the small amount of space that you will have to work with.
I have nav and the blitsafe and it is an excellent combination. Clean sound and you can still use all of the headunit controls.
Yes the port is still open even though you have nav. The port was intended to be used for a cd changer.

I mounted it inside the storage compartment in the center console. It is facing towards the front of the car. I use the remote through the space in the cupholder. Although I cant see the display it is still good. Right now I have the cassette adapter run through a hole in the bottom of the storage compartment through the ashtray and into the radio. Idon't like having any wires hangin and I definitely need better quality than cassette. I also mounted the antenna to the rear shelf in the middle. The reception is prettey good but when there are trees, I loose signal for 1-2 seconds. Has anyone tried this setup then switched to the antenna outside and notice a difference? That diagram should definitely help alot. I wil be getting the adapter in a few days.
just as i bought my skyfi, they released a new unit called "roady" which is 40% smaller than skyfi. it also does not have a craddle and is $120. it looks like it was made to fit under the ash tray. also, it has 7 different screen background light colors to match your dashboard. i think i will be selling my skyfi on ebay and getting this new one. it should be in stores on 9/25. bummer. i guess i have to wait some more with my install. by then my short shift adapter should arrive so i can get it done at the same time...
Just installed the Blitsafe AUX input and the Pioneer XM radio with the IP-bus Blitsafe audio converter and it ROCKS!!! Its like I have a whole different system. I cant believe the difference from the FM modulator. I have this on a 2002 TL-S with Nav.
