A bit O/T - AV for the home question. Help!
Guys,
I need a new VCR and a DVD player and am a middle of the road home theater guy. Don't buy my stuff at Walmart but can't compete with Shawn et all in the home theater section either.
So, I am looking at the VCR/DVD combo systems and have some upon this one. Can you look at this and tell me if this seems to have the basic feature set required to play DVDs and Videos? I want decent quality (reliability) but can't afford to go top shelf. Thanks.

I wouldn't do it. It is generic. I would bet it wont be reliable in the long run.
Sorry. IMO
I bought a entire Sony DVD system with speakers and a sub for $300. VCR's are so cheap now. Plus with the combo unit if 1 piece fails (dvd/VCR) the whole thing will suck to use.
Stick with a name brand. You will be happier in the long run

You can find middle of the road Sony and Panasonic VCR's for around $150, and DVD players for around $180... these will at least be more reliable, and provide much greater sound and picture quality, I have a Sony VCR and DVD, with Denon compenents and Polk speakers, and it is absolutley amazing!! The VCR was $200 2 years ago, and has wonderful picture and sound. The DVD was $179 from Crutchfield.
