big-time audio newb w/?'s

Well I did a tiny bit of research, but I'm still about as new as they come in terms of audio knowledge. Maybe you guys can help me out, and decide if this setup is good enough an upgrade. I'm planning on spending a little more than this if need be, but subs aren't needed at the moment.

One question though, will I need two separate amps, one for the 6.5in fronts, and another for the 6x9 backs? I'm guessing the answer is yes .. In that case, it might stretch my budget out a little more than what I wanted.

Kicker Amp
JL Audio 6.5in's
Diamond Audio 6x9's

Any good?

stock or aftermarket, for as long as its the same setup(2 tweets, 2 mid, and 2 6x9) then you need at least a 2 channel amp to power them to work proper, but you really should get 4 channel. one amp is good enough for a street system, it all depends on rms of the drivers and amp your going to use. as far as the equipment, what is your budget? cause thoes companys are mainstream and in my opinion, CRAP

Just so you don't order the wrong thing. But the link you put to the JL audio 6.5's are only 1 way speakers. No tweeters unless I'm missing something.

* Type: Component
* Elements: 1-Way
* Function: Mid-Range Speaker
* Size: 6.5"
* Nominal Power Handling: 100 Watt
* Woofer Material: Poly / Plastic
* Surround Material: Butyl Rubber
* Priced per speaker

may i make a suggestion? instead of jl and kicker, i suggest, diamond all the way or something like ARC? they make afforable equipment and they sound great. my first component was a Diamond HEX and they were pretty good and offers amazing midbass and clearity

Thanks for the responses. I've been doing a lil more research, and I say scratch the JL speakers I listed, no tweeter haha. If Diamond's as good as you say it is, then I'll check out the rest of their product line. My budget's around 500-600 dollars for same setup. 6x9's, tweets, amp and mids. Tweets can come later though.

Hmm, how's this .. ?

Diamond Audio 2-ways M361I
I'm not sure if I want 2-way or 3-way, but this is the only 6.5in this site offers. Cheapest prices I've found so far, and free shipping is always nice.

SoundStorm F4300 Amp
There wasn't any DA amps offered, so I just tried to find one with decent reviews.

A suggestion would to be look at component sets, they are 2 midbass drivers and 2 tweeters. You can get a pretty nice set for around $300. CDT, DLS, Focal, Image Dynamics etc etc. Then get an amp to run those. You will be able to find a nice amp for $200-$300.

The 6x9 shouldn't be a priority since they are in the rear, you should focus on the imaging upfront with your comps.

I run all my rear fill speakers off the Head unit. I find it uneccesary to amp them because you comps up front should drown them out. Unless you want to for your passengers you drive around in the back.....

Hmm .. against certain advice, I'm actually interested in a 4-channel Kicker amp, then a Diamond Audio or JL Audio component speaker set .. Diamond 6x9's may come later, I still wanna replace the Blose system back there. =/ Thanks for the help though, looks like component speakers have more of a kick than coaxials.

one more little pointer if you dont mind mystikk....try to keep things simple. i learned that through a trials and errors. also try to make a budget and stick to it. i used to think 500 was a lot for audio, then i accidently spend 1000, then 1500, then more, and now....i will honestly tell you its probably going to be double if not more. no custom work and thats all in parts w/out labor work since im doing it

Yeah, I'm glad I got my RE xxx in 2005 Sucks, they were definately one of the best bangs for your bucks. They got too popular too fast, and while it's awesome for the company, it bites for the consumer. I was one of those that talked bad about JL, not because their subs didn't perform, but because of their rediculous prices and you can get more performance at half the price. Now RE has followed the same pattern. Oh well, there are still a few companies/build shops that you can still get quality performance without breaking the bank.

Jl is a company that makes great products. There is absolutley no one that truly knows anything about mobile electronics that will deny that. Now their prices are a different ballgame all together. I've been selling and installing for over 10 years now and that is the one reason I've never used anything highend from JL.

As for companies that are crap. well there alot of them, and a alot of good companies that happen to make some crappy lines. You have to just do your research, try to listen to the products (preferably in a car and not in a sound room) and determine what gives you the results that you are seeking.

sorry, i guess i should be more specific, i just meant that you can get better for the same value, i probbaly never should have said "crap." even at kickers price, i would still pick something like ARC over that anyday
