Battery Discharging
Battery Discharging
I had a powered subwoofer in my car which was getting signal from the rear deck subwoofers. Last weekend, I heard noises coming from the back of the car while driving so I pulled over and noticed that smoke was coming out of the amp and my right rear deck sub. I disconnected them both and both of them were damaged. A few days later, I try to start my car and the battery is completely dead!
I recharge the battery and it is still seeing loses. In 24 hours it is dead again.
Anyone have any ideas? help!!!

There were 3 wires that went to the amp. One was the power from the battery, the second was signal from the speakers and the third was to a switch. The wires had plastic pin connectors on them so I just left them in the trunk. I started taking off some panels to see if it is touching metal anywhere but so far nothing. My rear deck subwoofer which was damaged in the process has been disconnected. However, I tested the clip and it has the same voltage as the battery which is down to about 4.5 volts now.

I don't know what caused the problem to happen but the result is:
1. the circuit board on the aftermarket amp melted
2. one of the stock 6 x 9 damaged
3. stock amp damaged
I've yet to test the aftermarket sub which was powered by the amp.
I traced the battery draining problem to the stock amp. With the stock amp removed the battery is fine. I don't know what to make of it. The stock amp and HU both function properly with the car on although the amp may be overheating because of internal damage.
I'm hoping once I replace the stock amp everything will be ok.
In the past months prior to this accident I was hearing popping sounds from that rear deck sub when I would crank up the volume. I'm thinking the problem may have started from there.
Do you think this could've been caused by a damaged sub?
