Basslink void battery warranty?

Hey guys, just a quick question, Im just wondering if I install a small system like the Infinity Basslink in the CL, will that void the warranty on the battery? Thanks.

Well, according to the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act (http://www.sema.org/Main/SemaOrgHome.aspx?ID=50100), the manufacturer/dealer has to be able to show that your aftermarket modification caused the problem they are repairing...in this case, the claim would probably be that you ran the amplified BassLink with the ignition off.

Now, Acura batteries are notoriously weak, so there is always the possibility that running the BassLink with the ignition off for an extended period COULD discharge the battery (I've gotten the voltage down a bit after 25 min or so). Of course, that would not 'ruin' it, but it would degrade performance if done repeatedly (and then recharge the battery, etc.).

That said, I have a BassLink in my TSX (which has a teensy battery fit for a large motorcycle), and I have not run into any trouble...then again, I have the unit power up when the stereo is on, which will only happen if the key is turned to ACC/PWR, so it won't ever be on by accident. If I burn out this battery, I'll use the opportunity to get an Optima. Ultimately, a battery is just aan energy storage device, and abusing it will degrade its performance...the bigger concern would be making certain your wiring job is clean and little issues like short circuits are avoided (burning down your car is worse than paying for a new battery).

As with all things aftermarket, if you are really, really concerned about it, then don't do it. Or, have a chat with the service manager at your dealer...many of them are pretty reasonable people (even to the point of advising you the best way to connect up your BassLink to power). Here's some guidance from SEMA on aftermarket accessories: http://www.sema.org/main/semaorghome.aspx?ID=50096

Os.
