BASS EQ/BASS BOOST question

my system =
2 kicker s12l7's 750 rms each
brutus hifonics 1500 bxd (something like that) - 1500 rms
1.5 farad capacitor

i had a question about the bass boost. I know many people who have it 3/4 of the way up and i have it about 6/10'th the way up (just a lil bit past halfway). I should be safe right? and how long does it take for subs to break in?

i have mine all the way off, in fact i rarely turn it on in any car i work on. . . .set the gains correctly and you shouldn't need it.

You shouldn't need the bass boost if your gains are correct. Make sure you break in the subs by playing different types of music at different levels for a few days. You shouldn't turn the volume up real loud untill after that. Most stuff is ready to go out of the box because of testing at the manufacturer but better safe than sorry.

As far as "bass boost" is this on your radio or a control to the amp?

bass boost on the amp ain't any different than the one in the head unit. it maye have a different center frequency and Q, but it boost the bass level in the preamp signal. if your gain is set correctly (with a multimeter and sync' with the others amp) and you still need to use bass boost, maybe you should consider different sub and/or amp and/or enclosure setup

bass boost on amp usally boost the frequency that a ported enclosure would have played louder than a sealed one. so if you use sealed enclosure in order to have a better SQ and use bass boost on the amp, it's a non-sense. You may like it, but it's not gonna give you more power, it will just make your amp clip earlier and most likely to be always at the same frequency AKA bass boost center frequency. My point is that set all your gains so all your amp produce their rms rating with the same signal, then you will discover what is really the subbass level comparatively to the midrange level. if that's not enough bass, you can always boost some frequency or adjust the gain with your ears, but you should be aware that you bass will distort before your midrange (and you're most likely not to know it)
