Weren't you asking this question at caraudio.com?
I don't think digital photos of a 1/4-VGA LCD is really gonna help you decide. THe pic looks good, but what are you looking for? The best picture is the Alpine with the VGA screen, the 1/4 VGA screen that every other unit has is good but not AS good...

Well, looks like it wasn't you...
There are two levels of resolution available from in-dash motorized head unit monitors (headrest and overhead monitors are a different beast, but you don't seem to be talking about them).
VGA resolution for a standard-width display is 480 lines high by 640 wide. Widescreen VGA is 480 high by 800 lines wide. NOTE that this is NOT higher resolution, because it describes the screen WIDTH, and vertical lines/pixels are how we talk about resolution.
1/4 VGA is what almost every single 6.5, 5.8, and 7" widescreen LCD for cars is. That's only 234 lines high by 400 lines wide. For VCR tapes and most TV reception, that's OK. DVD and the RGB nav signals can use more pixels. (The TSX OEM 8" screen is VGA, I beleive...)
Alpine has two units that use Toshiba's polysilicon screens which are very bright and which respond very fast. They are VGA resolution (480 lines vertical) AND they are wide, so they are often called VGA-W for widescreen. I believe both of them for 2005 have an S-video input too... which is kinda important if you are trying to take advantage of a better picture.
But if you are talking about any in-dash monitors besides these two Alpines, all their resolution is the same, and the only variations would be brightness and any video performance / degradation occuring on the circuit board...

What brand mp3/cd disk changer do you have?
I'm very happy with the picture from just about every single angle. No complaints about the screen at all here.

See? I told you that 1/4 VGA is good enough for most everything for a 7" car LCD!
You have to have a pretty damn good source and a pretty damn good signal method to see the difference... screen picture quality usually won't be the issue... the PIO has great brightness and great off-axis response, which are NOT functions of resolution but are important in a car.

think the guy at HiFi Buys played you, man. Sorry... but if the HU doesn't have CD text, no "modulator" is gonna give it to you.
Perhaps a specific brand had an adaptor to allow two units to be connected... but I think he sold you an FM Modulated unit and didn't use it...

Burn a CD-R w/ mainly all data make sure not picture files or sound clips...it has to be atleast 100MB...then attach a file with pictures in it i think you can put up to 5 pics on it...and then pop it into the DVD Drive and go through settings and highlight background picture and import from DISC...theres a whole section with detailed instructions in the manual...

i just sold mine... i think the n1 is ok, i actually like the p6600dvd, becasue it plays vcd which the n1 doesnt. also it is annoying to keep switching discs for the nav. Thats the only negative things, other than that its a pretty cool headunit. But if I were you, I will wait for the n2 is coming out pretty soon and has better nav. system

Hopefully you can get around this by disconnecting the VSS wire. Still...I hope they don't do that.
I'm hoping to be able to turn my N1 into an N2 later by flashing the new N2 firmware on it. Not sure if this is going to possible, but the units look physically identical so I got my fingers crossed.

Meldy is correct, I just got word from our manager that the avic-n2 will not play dvds if it detects the vehicle moving over 3 mph. I have also heard that if owners of the N1 update their unit with the N2 software (they will sell it since it is required to hook up the xm tuner with navtraffic) will also be affected by this issue. You can probably get around it by not hooking up the speed sensor wire but then none of the performance indicators will work. HTH.

This is the reason why I haven't bought the N1 yet.
