Avic D1 Question

Please don't flame me, I'm new to the acura world. I am one of the people who regrets not getting the navi in my 2000 tl. I saw the avic d1 on pioneers site and it looks like it would fit perfectly in my dash.

My problem is that not only can i not find the darn thing to see it in person, everyplace i go tells me that it won't fit in my car???

Has anyone installed this unit in their tl, or inquired about it??

I know you can get them kinda cheap online for around $1300 or so but i just want to be sure that i won't get raped by some installer who tells me that it will be a bunch of custom work or something.

Bump!

I was thinking of doing the same and adding some Boston Acoustics components up front, coaxials in rear and a small amp and their low profile sub to replace the Bose.

One other thing you might want to look if you do something like that is adding some additional soundproofing to the vehicle. I have used QuietCar a few times with AMAZING results, and fast dry times. (Well, in Houston anyway...)

I suspect that it does fit, but in ny, ny, I'd go see Ron at Street Effectz. I know that he puts the Kenwood double-din in there, so if there's some reason for the AVINC to not go in the dash, you have another option with that unit, and he does the best kits in there too.

Cascade Audio VMAX is my current favorite - easier to work with than liquids or Super Dynamat. Check it out at Parts Express. Customer had us do a Nak CD player, 2 DLS coaxes, and some of this in each door of a Civic Si, and I was blown away at how much the sound damping helped the sound even while still. SOunded like it had a small amp.

I hope to test a sub soon in one of those... but if you're in Houston, I would suggest taking a listen to DLS somewhere around there.

This isn't the pioneer, but the kenwood - the pioneer should look the same once installed and should mount exactly the same:

I do all my own work, but I appreciate the recommendation, as it is always nice to know there is someone experienced to fall back on.

On the sound deadening, the reason I like the QuietCar is the fact I can undercoat, wheel wells, firewall.... and still keep a nice clean black look. (Car is Nighthawk Black, ebony interior, with black carpet) I may take a look at the other stuff though, since when I do the complete install, I will be removing almost all of the interior and covering everything. I had done that in my 300ZX and the difference was 14db drop at highway speeds!

I think the Quiet Car does more to stop pass-thorugh sound than it does to stop resonances from speakers. That was my experience, at least, with other liquid spray on products. I find tha the mat type products will do more to keep the speaker-mount panels from vibrating and robbing energy when they are playing - which is a lower freq than the buzzing.

Thanks for the great info guys. Now that i know it can be done, i'm trying to decide between the pioneer avic d1 and the elipse double din navi unit. decisions decisions ;-)

any advice???

p.s. that kenwood install is the bomb , i'm definitely gonna talk to ron about an install regardless of which unit i decide on.

I am going with the pioneer for a few reasons.

1. 2 disk drives
2. Does not play DVD movies (I dont want them in the front seat)
3. XM Navtraffic (Used it on an RL and an absolute must!)
4. Hardwired remote (can be "modified" to the OEM volume buttons)
5 XM Radio interface (Very modern and updated with graphical buttons)
6. IP Bus (Allows integration of IPOD, disk changers....)

I have used several poineer products in the past, and bang for buck they are generally great units. On that note, the Eclipes units are nice too, but I think the Avic will give you more of an OE look (what I am going after)

Just my $.02

thanks for the info toups. the remote the thing is something that i am very interested in because i got very used to that convenience. how much do you have to pay monthly for the navtraffic? i like that feature too!

just in case you are interested there might be a group buy for the avic d1 going on in this thread https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...0&goto=newpost.

anyone out there have any experience with eclipse navi?? i'm such a navi noob ;-)

Are you talking about using the PAC SWI-X Steering wheel interface to do this?
As far as I know this interface will require you to place an IR transmitter with clear line of sight to the IR eye of the Pioneer deck. This would not be a hardwired solution.

What's the hardwired remote solution that you are talking about?
Is it something that can be plugged into the remote input in the back of the unit so that it is not necessary to place an IR eye anywhere?
I've never heard of anything like this, and I would really like to learn about it.
