Audio Help
I have this an aftermarket unit in my TL. However everytime I turn off my car it makes a big *pop* sound. Sounds horrible.
I also have problems with engine noise where I can only hear it in low volume. (whinning noise)
So I decided to look and investigate my problem. The amp and cap is grounded in the crossover bar behind the back seats. But the cap and amp is grounded on 2 separate bolts. I took a grinder and grinded off the paint. Seems like it didnt help.
The amp power wires and speaker wires are on the opposite sides of the car. I havent look to see if the head unit is grounded yet.
Any suggestions to help is apprciated.

I have a Kenwood 8017 with a Kenwood 9044 EQ
I also have a Phoenix Gold ZX 450 with a Fosgate Cap
The whinning problem is almost gone. I grounded the amp and the cap on the seatbelt buckes and it seemed to help better than the crossover brace behind the seat.
If you notice, I put all my speaker wires and my RCA wires together bundled in the loom on the right side. The power and ground are to the left.
Like I said before, the whinning is almost dissapeared. I also have a ground loop RCA isolator thing. But I still have the problem when I turn off the car and still makes the pop sound.
Thanks

When we first installed it and heard the "pop" I told him that he must have gotten a defective HU since both his amps have "anti-thump" circuitry.
We sent back the HU and got a brand new one....same thing. The only time his thumps is when he starts in CD mode. If he starts it in radio mode, there is no thump.
Try starting in radio mode and see if it makes a difference. If so, Kenwood has produced a faulty product. I actually feel bad since I steered him towards Kenwood and have put an Alpine system in my car. No thumps, alt whine, or anything in my car. (I don't feel too bad since I gave him most of the leftovers from my previous system!
I've always been a big Kenwood fan and only switched to Alpine because I wanted a disc changer that plays mp3s. I know Kenwood makes one but I couldn't seem to find one when I was looking.
PM me if I can be of any more assistance.
BTW, your dash kit looks incredible. Nice flush mounting of your components. How/who did it? Very impressive.
