Help, I need to find out the best way to cleanly cut the wood dash trim plate piece for an aftermarket radio install so it will look clean and flush mounted. Should I trace on the back side and use a hot knife/blade setup? I am worried about messing up the front smooth face and melting the clear plastic coating. Thanks
Yes, from the back is best. You can also do it from the front if that's easier for you, just but masking tape over the protective cover on the wood before you cut. Make sure your knife blade is new and sharp. Preferably use a FINE TIP blade that's thin.
obviously it doesnt fit an aftermarket setup since he is having to cut it....but if you want wood trim to match the stock go to www.selectproducts.com they have it there.....
aftermarkey wood trim
There was a post previously where you can get a blank radio piece from exoticwooddash.com, you will have to call it in for radio piece #7 with no holes cut and let them know if it is blackwood or burlwood. They will take about 8 days to make and about 3-7 days to ship. It is a bit pricey but it looks custom all the way, just got it done and it looks like a Mercedes Benz or Jaguar, flush mounted my h/u too, very clean.
