Anyone have the Compustar Alarm?

Hi all,

Well, the second week I got my wheels on the car someone tried to steal them, good I had the locks. Now I am in the market for a car alarm.

Wondering if anyone on the board has a Compustar Alarm and wondering all your thoughts on it.

1. It seems like it has a lot of functions that are standard features, where most other alarms they are options.

2. I really like the 2 way paging system and the LCD screen so I can be notified immediately, since I never park more than 2 blocks away from where I am.

3. My biggest question is since it's been on the market for only about 2 years has anyone experienced any major problems with the Compustars?

Thanks,

InspireS

I LOVE MY COMPUSTAR 3000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BTW, if you can get one from Canada rather than the US, the range will be far superior. The units are identical in appearance and features except the US version is subject to FCC rules which limit the range of the remote to 1000ft max. There is no FCC in Canada and hence no range limitation. I can tell you that i have confirmed my range to exceed 1/2 mile. Since the remote is a 2way, it will tell you if the alarm is going off so the range is great to have. Naturally the range will be different depending where you park the car. I know i can communicate with my car in the parking garage from 5 floors up in my steel and concrete office building. All that from a remote transmitter that has only 1 AAA battery. Unbelievable!!!! BTW, the alarm is feature packed and i cant see spending twice the price for a Clifford. And I speak with experience 'cause i was an installer for more than 10 years and I always used to speak the praises of Clifford alarms. BTW, you can contact freg@wiremagic.com to order up the Canadian version of the Compustar 3000. He is a user on these message boards and thats where i first hooked up with him. i think i paid about $260USD for it. He can also give you a wiring diagram with all the colors and locations of the wires in the car.

Compustar 3000? So is that the 2WSS Model or the 2WFM model?
The newer 2WSS (Spread Spectrum Technology) is not out yet here in Canada.

Thanks for the contact, I will email him and see what he has.

I would really like to get my hands on a 2WSS Model, since I hear the 2WFM models are not that great, and sometimes require actual line of sight to operate.

Thanks!

The 2WSS is last year's model. Compustar never bothered to update their website in case thats where you were looking.

Fred Gallo is the contact at Wiremagic. His email is fredg@wiremagic.com

Din,

What model Compustar does your girl have? I am looking for feedback on the 2WFSS model.

Thanks,

Indeed, the remotes are the weakest part of the Compustar package. I shouldn't really be saying this since my bro sells them, but hey--I call them as I see them...

Speaking of Compustar--is the 3000 the latest, i.e., is that the one with the white remote and the turbo timer option? My bro carries it but I don't remember if it's the 3000; however, he did say that Compustar is coming out with one that has a 1-mile range. That would be great, not because of the range but that it means that it has a slightly higher transmitting power output--good if you're behind thick (and/or steel) walls.

The 3000 is the newest, with an active antenna for totally great range. My remote is blue in color though (not aware of a white one, but maybe there are multicolors available for it??) Yeah it has the turbo timer feature, for turbo cars, it will keep the engine on for 2 minutes after you shut the car off, giving the oil a chance to circulate and cool the turbo down. Not too many cars left with turbos nowadays, but a required feature to have if you happen to have one.

Had one in my honda accord.... THEY FRIGGIN KICK ASS!!! Get one, hands down, BEST ALARM... nobody will **** with your ****!!!
Oh, btw the US model can go 1/2 mile also so the canadian one has nothing extra on the US model. you can get an optional antennae right now for like 50 bills that will extend the range to little over a mile!!!

in alaska I used the autostart to warm my car up in like forty below zero and in the summer here in phoenix I used it to cool my hot ass car down!!!!

You will love this alarm and regret it if you dont get one....SO THERE! GET ONE NOW and stop worrying about little punks ****ing with your ride

Thanks for all the replies. My car is going in next Wednesday for the Compustar installation. All the bells and whistles I'll post some pics of the install if I get a chance.

Thanks,

BTW, the canadian one I have already comes with the active antenna which claims to give up to a mile range. As great as this alarm is, (And it IS great!) I have yet to actually communicate with it at nearly that distance. Terain is ultimately what will effect range here. Perhaps if you are parked out on the Bonneville Salt Flats you can get 1 mile out of the thing, but heck even the 1/2 mile i have achieved is still amazing.
