another subwoofer post? i think so.
i'm 16 and new to the site. 1999 acura 3.2 tl. i have researched and researched. i actually found out about the blitzsafe adapter from this site. i installed one of those myself. i want to know what the best subwoofer, amp, and box combo is for my car for about $500. would i be able to install it myself? if so i could spend the whole 500 on the subwoofer, amp, box, and cords. i originally thought about getting 2 kenwood 12's with a 375 watt kenwood amp. i decided against that. i think it would sound like crap. i now think 1 jl audio wx12 with a jl 250.1 amp would be better. it probably wouldn't hit as hard. but the sound quality would be a lot better. i've gone to a couple shops and asked around. they said that i would steal the signal of the stock sub and run that to the amp. then i could reroute the stock sub as a mid. i think i could take that out and throw a higher quality cone speaker in there. also, if i stole the signal off the original stock sub would the 225 amps off the stock amp be compounded with the aftermarket amp? thanks for the help guys

Now now, guys... he hasn't purchased it yet... so there is hope.
First, know that the enclosure matters just as much as the sub, so don't forget to either build a great box, or have one made. Pre-made boxes can be hit and miss, but if you do go with pre-made, for the love of God just go with a sealed box.
I've shown this before, I truly challenge anybody to beat it for the price http://meniscusaudio.com/polk-subwoofer-p-825.html

It is a 4ohm sub, and only $50. You can either run a pair of them at 2ohm (perfect for most sub amps) or just one, and run a bridged 2ch amp at 4ohm.
These need a low-tuned ported box, but will absolutely kill.
Amp? Got a surprise for you on that front:
One of my astute audio friends found an ARC Audio Mini clone, from the same Nikola Engineering / Robert Zeff design firm. It specs out the same as a much, much more expensive amp, and the best parts are that they are TINY and very efficient. I will be purchasing these shortly myself, to prove them out. Ready?
monoblock 500W at 2ohm, 300W at 4ohm

And if you want to take the extra money left over and build a decent front sound stage,... well that would be my suggestion.
BTW 4 gauge wiring will be needed, Knukonceptz is where I go. The Kollasus Fleks line is what I would suggest, true quality copper.

There is no best.
It all depends on your goal and budget.
Listen to everything fourth says..he's always spot on when it comes to product selection.
Those vibe amps look nice
There's 2 other arc clones out there by elf audio and wetsounds. Much more expensive than the vibe tho.

Well, for the price, anyway. I mean for me, half the fun of doing audio projects is doing them as cheap as possible while not compromising any audio quality at all. For instance, a lot of people go with expensive "comps" up front, but they do so without regard to what is really going to matter for sound quality. They hear a brand like Focal or Alpine is the shit, and they pick them up, and slap them in, and at least in their mind it sounds amazing. But with the right processing and amplification in place, I can order a pair of home audio woofers, and some quality home audio tweeters for 1/10th the cost, and literally smoke the crap out of expensive components. Its all in the installation, tuning, and careful choices made throughout the build, in my opinion. That's what makes it fun for me.
OP, if you give me a budget for the whole car, say... 800-1000, you too can pull it off with a bit of tuning time.

$100!!!
These need some big boxes typically, but wow, what a sub.

Well you didn't mention at any one point in the conversation if you were in CA dude! Maybe stick that in your avatar info on the left, eh?
If you ARE in CA, then the game changes. Sites you need to sticky:
buy woofers, tweeters, go active and run home theater goodies

and here

Like the SDX10, an awesome sub.
