Requesting pics of how your amp is mounted in a 1G TSX. Looking for a stealth/usable install, so that most of trunk and folding seats are usable.

 

Clarification: Would like to how amps are mounted so they do not interfere with the folding seat i.e. mounted somewhere else besides the seat back!

 

So this is an amp not for subs? But for your regular speakers?

Mines not stealth, but I built a little amprack in the trunk that's low profile and works pretty well.

Here is a location to consider. I have two of the JL HD amps mounted on this shelf, along with the original Navi unit, and it doesn't consume any trunk space. The seats still fold down, and almost no clearance is lost. The shelf is mounted via a hinge near the rear, in the event I need to adjust the wiring, or replace a fuse.

Can you show some more details on the mount points?

Does the Navi Unit have to be able to open ever (except to take an update DVD?)

 

I will try to take some more pictures this evening showing the mount points for the amp shelf. I don't know if I mentioned this, but for the shelf to fit, I removed the 6x9 speakers in the back deck and went with a 10" sub in one of uncald4's custom enclosures, which does not take up much trunk space at all! I would highly recommend his enclosures if you can afford it, Travis does excellent work. I have posted more pics of that on this thread.

As far as accessing the Navi unit, since there is a cut-out for the face of the Navi unit in the shelf, I don't need to open the shelf to change the DVD or to access the PC Card slot to backup my data - it's all accessible with the shelf in place.

 

How do you open/close the rack? What holds it to the car?

 

To open the shelf, there are two screws on the outside of the shelf that need to be unscrewed - they are black and blend in with the carpet, and then the shelf swings down from the front. Here are pics of the rear mount points:



At first they used small screws to mount the brackets, but the screws backed out and started rattling, so they replaced them with four pop rivets per side, and the shelf is holding solid with no rattles.

Here is a picture of the front mount point. Since it is all covered with carpet, it's hard to tell, but there is a piece of MDF that is directly bolted to the rear seat frame, and is hinged a few inches past the rear of the frame, which allows the shelf to swing down:

Had I seen the shelf concept above, I think I would have tried to do the same. However, since I do not have navi and only one amp, I decided the mount points for the dvd drive would make a good choice. I build a small board that would mount to those points and support the amp. Here are some pics:

Very nice and completely invisible with the trunk opened! I can see what looks like you've removed the 6x9s.. do you have any plans on adding a subwoofer to the setup, or are the door speakers meeting your needs?

After a bad experience of having a sound system stolen out of my old CRX, keeping sound system gear concealed is something I can really appreciate - and if you do have visible gear, make sure you bolt it down solidly so stealing it won't be worth the average theif's time.

I may either get 6x9's with a power handling and see if they can be used effectively with the sub channel or build something smaller. I had a 10" sub in a big box with a 1ch sub amp, and a LOC off the reach channel first, but took up too much space.

WOW just saw this I may have to reconsider my install and start over. However only problem is the fact my amp weights like 50lbs.

Components are mounted on 1/4 pb, braced from underneath to follow the contour of the trunk floor. Lid is in 2 pieces, contoured to the sidewalls of the trunk, approx. 3.5 inches up from the added pb floor. The sub + box is very heavy, interior volume @ 1.3 cu ft. The lid actually helps holds the sub box in place. I started off with just small heavy-duty velcro pieces to secure the lid. Over 2 years-time, the glued velcro pieces gave-way in several places. I got lazy and added just 2 black screws to quiet the rattle I was hearing; over bumps and potholes. Oh, and when the trunk lid is closed; the sub can't be moved. 99% of the time; I'm hauling grocery bags, and it just worked out, that the bags slide right in on either side of the sub. Works for me!
