Amp mounting locations?? (Long)

OK, I've seen many beautiful installs on this board...too many to remember them all.

So, let me throw this question at you and see what I get.

I have two amps and a subwoofer box to install. I want to retain as much usable trunk space as possible AND keep the trunk tray they "gave" me when I purchased the car.

The sub box is 31 x 11.5 x 15 in. and houses two 12" IDQs.

The sub amp will have to be mounted on top of the sub box as much as I hate to do that. BUT it's too damn big to mount anywhere else (17.7 x 8.2 x 1.9 in.). As it stands, I'll have to mount it on towards the drivers side of the box to clear whatever that plastic piece is that's hanging down on the passenger side.

BTW, to those of you who have mounted your amps directly to the sub box, have you ever encountered problems with the fact that the amp is getting the sh!t kicked out of it every time the bass hits? I've read a number of articles that strongly suggest against doing this.

My real question is about the 4 channel amps' possible locations. Its dimensions are (9.63 x 13.5 x 2.75 in). One possible location is the side of the subwoofer box. I'm REALLY not big on this but it will ensure that I can keep the ground wires from both amps as short as possible going to the same ground location. Plus, it will look weird. Personally, I'm more about sound than looks, but I don't want it to look like a major cheeseball install.

ALSO, where did you find a GOOD ground back in the trunk area?

I'll be using a 4 g wire to ground both amps. (Each amp will have an 8g ground wire input to a distribution block that exits with one 4g wire to ground - it's the opposite of how I do the power wire. Power is one 4g to fused distribution block with two 8g outs to the amps).

I'm totally open to suggestions, opinions, etc.

Thanks.
