Amp heating up, is it normal...???

I've got two similar amps:
Phoenix Gold Tantrum 600.4 for the speakers and P.G. Tantrum
500.2 for the sub.
I've noticed today that the amp for the sub heats up like the grill at Burger King...
At the same time touched the plate of the speakers amp and it just felt warm...

Is it normal for the sub amp to heat up more than the speaker amp? When the amp gets hot is there any power loss?

Oh man! You better get that checked out immediately!!! Amps should never heat up that bad, especially your sub amp. Sub amps will always run cool since they deliver a mono load. Good luck.

The above is false.

The case of the amp is the heat sink so it will always be hot.

Yea, my amps used to always run hot. Just make sure you give the amp ventilation.

They are like the old punch amps, the top of the amp is the heat sink. Also being in texas in the summer could have something to do with it. If you leave the car off all day it will be hot anyway.

Passive heatsink amps...such as Zapco's, Rockford Fosgate, JL, and his PG's WILL heat up when used...
