Alpine SPS-171a 6.5 component questions
I have a set of these speakers, planning on taking apart the doors and installing them in the next couple of weeks. Two questions for anyone who has installed them:
1. The "OEM adaptor for Honda" is included. The separate instruction sheet in the package states that you "must" install as described for appropriate function/sound quality. This includes cutting metal from the upper 2/3 of the "Honda quick mount" opening in the door.
I thought that others have said these could be mounted without cutting? Or - is it that you can mount it without cutting, it just won't sound as good (that is what the sheet seems to say).
2. The crossover has a jumper with three positions for the tweeter 0, -3, -6 dB. Once I have these installed, I hope to never look at the crossovers again. What settings have others used? Just to minimize the chance I will have to mess with them later. (may be system dependent I realize)
Thanks!

To decide where to set the tweeters, look at where you usually set your treble. If you're flat on the treble, try -6 (assuming dash locations). 1/2 way up, go -3. I don't think you would be going to 0 dB unless you're old and deef at the hi-notes...: )
FYI... after 10 days my Alpine x-type tweets smoothed out a lot and now I want to change the settings. Speaks break in, you know...

Thanks for the suggestions. elduderino - I reviewed your install with spacers again. It makes more sense to me now.
Interestingly, the "OEM adaptor for Honda" included looks to be about the right thickness. Looking forward to taking the doors apart when I get some time to try it out.
If I do have to cut the door, I am going to have to use my Dremel. I don't have anything else that will do the job. That should be fun (not). Maybe I could rent something...
