just figured this out myself. if the cd reads cd text then the text should show up by itself. just press the "title" button and it should give you a few options of display. if you put in a burned cd or a cd without cd text you have to manually input the artist and song title. it is the same with radio stations. there is max to the headunit so you can't input every cd you have in your collection. i think it does up to 80 or something. don't remember how to do it. just look in your manual under cd text to see how it is done. hope this helps.

Smile Naming Stations and CDs

Hi. I have a have an Alpine CDA-7873 and I know how to label stations and Cds. Hopefully this will be a help to you.
Stations first : select the station you want to label. (you might have to scroll through the titles of the station using the title botton, i forgot which one lets you custom-label it.) Hold down the 'Title' botton. (at the bottom of the faceplate, below the rotary knob. hold it for maybe 3 seconds, and a cursor appears. use the rotary knob to switch characters, and press it as a space bar. when you're done, press the 'Title' Botton once more.
now for Cds. Load the CD you want to label. press the title botton until you reach the display that has dashed lines across the screen. Again, hold the 'Title' until a cursor appears. Label the CD using the same procedure as for radio stations(^^^^), and press 'Title' to create the label.
Hopefully this helps you out. I'm assuming you have a single DIN CD player. If so, This guide is most probably accurate.
