Well I just put a new amp in my car as well. Before the new amp, my interior lights were dimming with bass hits. The old amp was 300wrms and my new amp is 600wrms, so I wasn't sure how much worse it was gonna get. Well I get to taking my trunk apart and find a crappy ground which was done by the local shop. My new amp wanted 4 gauge wiring so I went looking for a better ground spot. I took my back seat out and found a row of 6 bolts behind it. I chose one of the bolts closest to the pass-through and did a little dremel work on the hole as well to get good contact. Needless to say, after everything is connected I fire up the radio and no dimming of lights at all with double the power. Goes to show that you can't trust most shops and you should always double check someone else's work if it's your car.

BTW...While I had the back seat removed, I took out the factory sub. Much easier this way.

No I'm pretty sure it was the grounding. I forgot to tell you that the old amp would get really hot and turn off by itself. I previously had a different amp on it and it did the same thing so it had to be the wiring.

Here's my new amp: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_020DPX2...51.html?tp=115.

I had the same exact problem as Jedc..my amp would get hot and then the bass cuts out.. =/ lame..but now I have a new kicker amp with the ground to one of those little gay plastic/metal pieces that hold up our trunks..

hey guys, new member here, just wanted to get some posts in so i can become a more qualified member. I have a system in my 99 TL as well, it's nothing special and i have noticed a little bit of dimming in my car as well but nothing major, is under the back seat at the chassis a good solid recommended ground? I unfortunately paid to have mine installed and got waxed. i haven't checked their work but i'm about to. i have thick solid ground wire to replace it with too, as i'm sure they probably used some cheap threaded stuff. but how big of a difference can a ground make? and if I'm not having any issues really is there any point in replacing it? any potential improvements by doing so? i know that's a dumb question but i just need some posts in.

In my case a good solid ground made all the difference. Behind the seat seems effective to me, but I'm no expert. No more dimming and/or cutting out in my car.

What the hell do you mean by you have "thick solid ground wire" to replace the "cheap threaded stuff" with? Any good wire is going to be braided... In fact, the more strands, the better... One solid hunk of copper would be alright, but at the same time pointless...
