Question After-market Disk Changers

Can anyone suggest a good after-market CD changer - preferably a 12 disk changer? Your commments are appreciated. Thanks!

Hey PTG,

Are you planning to replace the factory head unit? If not, a 12 disk changer won't work. The brain in the the factory system will only work with 6 disk changers. Trust me I tried every way to get it to work.

The feedback I received is Alpine 6 Disc. Allows it to be changed by the head unit and steeringwheel controls.

Thanks for the comments. I hadn't thought of the head unit controlling only a six disk changer. Does the head unit and steering wheel controls only work with the Alpine changer?

Question

So, should I just get the stock CD Changer? Is the after-market Alpine any different, better, or cheaper (with installation), than the stock unit? HELP, pleeeeaaaasssse.

From what I hear, the Alpine changer is cheaper than the one Acura slaps their logo on. Even though it's the exact same product, just paying more for the Acura logo on it. If $ isn't an object and you really really really want that tiny Acura logo on it, then buy it from Acura and pay considerably more.

I've got the factory changer from Acura and I love it. Luckly, I didn't have to pay for it. My dealer threw it in as a complimentary thing after I had already purchased the car.

I have an aftermarket Alpine... I compared it to a discount rate online. The online rate is $399, Alpines at circuit city ran me $400 installed including the adapter and a nice little carpet box to make it look "factory match"...

Where is the factory location for the CD-Changer? Also, what adapter do you need in order to connect the Alpine changer to the stock system?
Thanks.

I installed a 6-Disc Alpine on my Civic a few years ago and it requires a special conversion cable to the head unit.  Why pay more for a logo if the changer works exactly the same?<p>

Since I'm not a pro, it took me 2+ hours to do the installation. The toughest part was to run the cable from the head unit to the trunk. You may want to do a connection test (between the head unit and the CD changer) before you start pulling a lot of things apart.
