After all my talk, i did it - well, halfway there

well, i just finished ordering my new system equipment. after much web surfing for the best prices, i think i saved a huge amount of money... so here it is

Alpine Type R 12" sub - $112 (www.hookedontronicks.com)
Alpine Type R 6 1/2 Components - $119.99 (Ebay)
Alpine MRD-M500 Amp - $260.60 (Ebay)

after all the shipping and tax charges were added, it came out to a grand total of $567.43. If i woulda gone to the store it woulda came out to $950, so i made a savings of $382.57. now i just have to wait to get all my goodies. I plan to make a fiberglass enclosure on the right side of my trunk for the sub, and try to make an amp rack with a plexiglass cover maybe accented with blue neons, who knows. ill keep you all posted though.

Im assuming youre talking about my 6x9s? well, i htink they made a great improvement on the bass quality. the bass is so much tighter and cleaner. and at first when i bought them, i had them in mind as an alternate to a sub, thinking i wouldnt want more bass, but here i am waiting for my sub to arrive. but as a general speaker swap they were a great upgrade and i would recommend them to anyone. cant wait to hear the wonders thatll happen when i put in the components

well, heres the first update on the system. first, the sub i ordered off of www.hookedontronics.com was not in stock, and they waited 3 days to notify me of this. so, i cancelled my order with them and went right over to Ebay and got the same sub for a Buy It Now price of 99.77 or soemthing, so i ended up saving money. still havent recieved anything in the mail, but i just got emails saying that my components should be delivered the 16th, and the sub the 17th. im hoping my amp will be delivered tomorrow (friday) or saturday so that i can get to work on making my custom amp rack...

Got my amp in the mail today! opened it up to get a few pics and boy it sure does look impressive. at first i was a bit skeptical about the seller not replying my emails, but alas, i recieved my amp. tomorrow i should be getting my components, and wednesday i will get my sub. so this weekend will be the big install. cant wait! dont worry, ill take a bagillion pictures of the install (namely the fiberglassing).

the last update before the install. yesterday i recieved the component speakers in the mail, and today i installed the tweeters. that was a bitch, as they did not fit right off. had to do a lot of sanding to get them to fit, but we finally got it. today i also recieved my sub... i knew it would be big, but boy it is massive! i hope that fiberglass will be strong enough to hold its weight... maybe ill reinforce it with MDF... untill next time
also, for anyone wondering, i got all my equipment off Ebay without a problem at all, and for even cheaper thatn some of the sites online, seeing as i didnt have to pay any taxes...

i think im fighting a losing battle with this fiberglass sub box idea. first of all, im doubting whether or not it would be able to hold the sub. then, if i have it on the right side of the trunk, the sound wont be balanced. also, this is gonna take a lot more time i think than i have. i guess ill just concentrate on a really nice amp rack. i hope a pre-made box will sound good, who knows... maybe the box i woulda made woulda sucked and ida have to had bought one in the end... o well
