CL: adding amp to power only front components

adding amp to power only front components
hey guys,
wondering what's the best BUDGET (spend no money) solution for right now.
i bought the car with a set of aftermarket front components (i'll have to check the specs later), but i also have a 2-channel clarion apx400.2, 75x2@4ohm. the OEM amp @ 25x4 is probably underpowering those components by quite a bit. however, assuming the apx specs are good:
i don't want to buy anything extra at this moment, because in the future i'll probably be buying 6x9's for the rear and powering everything on a 4-channel amp. i just want something better right now, because i have this amp lying around.
can i just cut the wires to the OEM amp (the audio unit front + and - wires), and wire those to the high level input on the amp, or is it better to use the amp'ed signal (passenger door/driver door + -) from the OEM amp? somewhere i read that the HU signal is very low so it's better to use the amp output, but that doesn't make much sense to me, because you should never use 2 amps together?
and yes i know the easiest would be to use a LOC, but i do not want to spend any money at this time.
thanks

You can do either/or. Pre-amp is fine but signal voltage is quite low. You'll probably have to compensate with high gain adjustment on the amp if you go this route. I would only suggest using post-amp signals if your aftermarket amp is able to accept high-level signal inputs.
